‘Knackered’ postman who left woman, 72, in snow after fall is sacked by Royal Mail

  1. Let’s face it. When a Hermes driver shows up and helps it’s time to knock Royal Mail on the head isn’t it.

  2. Glad to see it’s not just my postman that’s a waste of functioning organs that should be donated to literally any other cause but his continued living.

  3. >The pensioner was discovered 20 minutes later by 22-year-old Hermes driver Karolina Domska who found Mrs Stewart crying in the snow and helped her back into her house.

Good on that driver. Can’t say my local Hermes driver would’ve done the same, mind.

  4. Hey, this happened in my area.

Some of our postmen are just cunts.

Good to see the guy was fired. Like, for fuck sake dude!

  5. I’m a Postie. I’m super insanely busy right now and knackered every day. Still under no circumstances would I ever leave anyone in such a condition.

    What a bastard.

  6. I’d love to see a Postman Pat episode based on this. Pat discovers Mrs Goggins has fallen on the ice and can’t get up. “Nah, sorry pal, I’m knackered”. Drives off to the Postman Pat theme music.

  7. My local postie or someone at the sorting office robbed my sons birthday card money too, their insurance will only cover the first class stamp

  8. I am sure if he had helped and something had gone wrong, Royal Mail would have sacked him for violating company policy or not having a risk assessment.

  9. Devils avocado here.

Is he under any legal obligation to help? If she hadn’t been found by the Hermes driver and died, would he be legally responsible for her death? If not, is there any reason for him to be fired?

I think it was a dispicable thing to do, and believe he should have been fired. But I love the legal grey area of _not_ doing something.

  10. What kind of person could even walk away from such a situation without feeling guilty as hell? Sounds like a total psycho

  11. I wonder if he would’ve gone to prison for a few days in America? Seeing as they are federal employees over there.

  12. I appreciate how tired/exhausted many of us are but sheesh… even if you can’t physically help a person up, and it could be argued while it wasn’t a bad fall, obviously sometimes it can be dangerous to move someone (particularly elderly/frail) following one, you could at least get them a blanket and help if they require it.

Not just leave them there.. cunt move

  13. Not being a smart arse here, but would his argument in a tribunal be “it’s not my job, nor is it in my job description, so how can I be sacked from my job?”

  14. Not to excuse the guy walking away. But, if you find a 72 year old that’s fallen are you *supposed* to help them up and move them?

Wouldn’t the ideal response be to call an ambulance and get them to assess her for damage, a broken hip being the obvious one, before moving her?

  15. I feel lucky reading this – my postie worried if I was ok when he saw letters piling up on my doormat and notified my neighbours (I was on holiday in the Far East for a month), and the postman before him used to post my cats collar back through the letterbox when she hooked it off on a bush.
