I watched “[All quiet on the Western Front](https://www.netflix.com/title/81260280)” yesterday. For those who do not know it, it’s a movie about the last weeks of WW1. I’ve seen my share of war movies but tbh not a single one which was so horrendous. It really got under my skin. So many young lives brutally slaughtered.
Anyway I just came here to express how thankful I am that our countries left this epoch behind us. And I want to apologize for the crimes of my grandfathers. Today it just feels good to have you as our neighbors. I admire your beautiful country, your much more laid-back attitude and the fine food you have. Plus, your national football team rocks 😎
So thank you for being there. Our governments may not be always in line but I guess that’s just normal. Let’s stick together – especially in these days.

Both sides bear the blame for the senseless killing of WWI, more specifically their political classes.
You don’t have to apologize for something you didn’t do. It was other people at other times.

Jokes aside, it’s all good, there’s no need to apologize for crime you didn’t commit nor even morally support.
When I was an Erasmus student many moons ago I made friends with a bunch of German people, all of them lovely blokes and gals. We all agreed that it seems completey mad that at some point Germany and France didn’t get along, as for my generation (millenial here, I’m sure its the same for zoomers) it’s seems obvious that Germans and French are very close and can rely on each other. That speaks volume on the tremendous amount of efforts made by older generations to mend the fences between our two countries. Let’s keep it going !

This film is pure ridiculous propaganda describing both sides as victims whereas Germany was the sole agressor. It was wrong on so many levels. At least I loved the part with Saint Chamond !
Whatever, you, as a person have nothing to do with that and I hold no grief to what our great-grand parents did or did not do.
I have no grief, but, that old german mentality : feeling superior to others is really getting on our nerves and as a modern German you should be aware that some of us are not very comfortable with your country on the following subjects :
* russian gas (it is over now but coal is really your solution ? )
* anti nuclear policy. (get rid of those beatnicks boomers ASAP )
* unregulated immigration (I suspect you are feeling guilty for something but you should really not )
* pro americanism and military contracts seriously use your superiority complex to lead a euro pride with us no to lick american boots !
* monetary policy toward south Europe : seriously, smashing Greece economy was a bully move !
* “deutsche qualität” is a marketing joke
This is my own opinion and I know it is no very popular on this sub though.
We have a lot of work to do together and we still need to know each other better !
