Tonight on the news: celebrities ask banks to stop making money, and ask the poor to make sacrifices while they dine on caviar and fly private to Ibiza for the weekend.
Awww ‘celebrities’, the pinnacles of intellectual superiority and shining examples of everything that is good and pure in this world (sarc).
Like I give a fuck what Stephen Fry or Emma Thompson has to say. I’d rather this be heard from the heads of research and science who are actually experts in the field.
I don’t see how this helps.
All the big name UK banks could stop financing coalfield development tomorrow, and it wouldn’t make any difference.
Those coalfields will just get their finance from noname banks in the cayman islands. And those noname banks in the caymans will take all the profits. And since they aren’t UK based, there will be no need to publish figures either, so nobody will be able to know whats going on.
We still need oil for cars we can’t all afford electric cars, like the celebrity’s. Emma Thompson said she never fly economy class it’s all for show.
Had Stephen put some clout behind Corbyn in 2017 I might be more willing to listen. Instead, as far as I know, he opted to hide under a pile of coats. I lost a para-social friend during that time.

Aren’t all those banks multinationals anyway?
Are they expecting these banks to stop investing in oil worldwide? All because some British has-beens say so?
Or are they just asking the banks to make sure they don’t invest any UK customer’s money in oil? If oil is a good investment, they will just invest money from the countries instead, to the exact same value.
All that will do is pointlessly make UK investors poorer. Mainly that will be ordinary people’s workplace pension funds. While doing nothing to solve the actual problem.
Emma Thompson… isn’t she the one that flew in a private jet from LA to London to protest climate change? 😂. The lack of self awareness from these over privileged bellends, continues to baffle me.
