Hungry children are poor learners, so poverty on this scale is seriously damaging the prospects of our future workforce. Free school meals for all is relatively cheap but you can still provide a quality meal that will help all kids meet their nutritional needs. You can go online and see what some countries offer and it is far better than a lot of the crap we see in the UK; that is because the governments of those countries see it as an investment in the future, not a financial burden for today.
