  1. Would probably never vote them again. All it seems to be is a party led by a man who doesn’t understand the difficulties of living in Rural Ireland, as well as how big it is compared to Dublin.

  2. I’ll continue to vote Green because of Climate Change at least until some other party starts taking it seriously, then I might reconsider based on their Health and Housing policies.

  3. He has form, Leo. The Green party will do everything to keep the government intact so they can green-force the country with their idealistic plans

  4. Probably won’t, we need big green policies in fairness, not just random tax to save the environment which the green party don’t seem interested in doing.

The other thing for me, there has been a few scandals now that I can’t get over they still voted confidence in the government, I get that they want there policies in and by voting confidence they get that, but for me it’s at the cost of self respect for the party. It felt at times that the government could break any law and as long as the greens got there bike lane it was all fine in there eyes.

  5. Greens have made it clear that they don’t care. They will prop up whoever they have to, whoever the flavour of the month is, so that they can get in and implement their policies.

  6. I would never vote green. Ryan hasn’t a fucking clue. And from what I know of the Green Party members HATE him. Why would I vote for a party like that.

  7. In the middle of a climate emergency and they’re polling at what 3/4%

They’re the ultimate party for the upper classes

Ryan and his villages should share a car plan was the end of me taking them seriously.

They’re gonna get a hammering in the next election which is why they will back the current government till the end.

  8. I gave our local constituent a vote last time all be it a low number. I would never vote for them as long as Ryan is steering the ship. As someone with a background in Environmental management and from rural Ireland. He has done nothing but aggravate and turn all the people outside of the Dublin area away from the Greens and tbh make the whole climate issue look like a joke with his carry on. If they cut ties with him and appointed an actual competent head I would consider. Tbh I would have a real hard time trying to pick anyone worth voting for next time as no one really seems to have our best interests in mind.

  9. Never forget Leo was anti gay marraige and adoption, theres a clip on youtube of him speaking against it in the Dail. Leo even finds it hard to be honest with himself.

  10. Why would anybody ever vote green again. They’re all space cadets, especially their supreme leader. Completely out of touch with the normal person on the street

  11. FG issues are primarily there for FG to solve. I don’t think that the Greens would be in a position to get the coalition partners to change their ways, so I think the point that you’re trying to make is moot.

  12. They’re in my preference list somewhere alright but very low down I’d say.

I’d put SF, PBP, Labour and SD all higher than them so they’re probably the lowest of the left and slightly left” brigade for me.

  13. I’ll vote green. They stand for something. They actually made strides to take the corruption out of planning, they also tried to go after profits from selling zoned land and they are pro cycle lanes.

  14. Suspect the Greens might increase their votes the next time around. They’ve been highly effective as a small party in government in introducing actually novel policies.

  15. I honestly don’t know, I’ve never been less sure of where I would vote – there is so little to inspire confidence across the board. The current government are generally spoofers & chancers but the opposition are all fairly toothless I think too tbh. A few good eggs mixed around all sides but not enough in a single party to really give that boost.

Greens knew going into this government they would be absolutely obliterated next time round, there was a little bit of selling your soul to get into government and try bring in at least some of your policies / agenda while the green vote was so topical. I.e., act now on climate rather than wait til 2025 and beyond. The last few governments have always had that small party take the big hit and return in two cycles time, so they probably will be back.

What’s potentially more interesting is the future of ‘green’ politics as time goes on, ideally you’d want all parties incorporating a lot more green into their policies which would make Eamon’s crowd somewhat redundant in a sense.

  16. Voted for them before, naively thinking they were only about environmental issues, which I believe are important.

I will never vote for them again. I’d vote SF before voting Greens and I do not like SF.

For whatever reason, the Greens and Rodric O’Gorman, in particular, seem hell bent on flooding the country with as many bogus asylum seekers as possible, and for that reason alone, I hope they sink without a trace in the next election

  17. Sure, they’re the only party that actually seems to have any principles and aim to achieve positive change.

Obviously I’m not a fan of the left wing social progressivism that seeps in but that’s to be expected.

Meanwhile Fine Gael seem to have no actual belief in themselves as a liberal-conservative pro-European party, as we’ve seen with huge spending increases on everything *except* defence despite Russia’s invasion, and an abject failure to push to integrate Ireland into NATO.

And obviously I’d be expecting FG and FF to restrain Rodric O’Gorman’s crusade to flood Ireland with illegal immigrants, instead they enable him… so really what’s the point in preferencing anyone else before the Greens?

  18. I would never vote green again.

    Vote left transfer left.

The green party in Ireland is not on the left. Worse than useless

  19. Prop up the government?

People seem to think that when a gets into power they’ll be able to do everything they wanted. It’s about taking what you can understanding where you need to compromise. It’s not the Greens fault that SF couldn’t get their shit together and work with another party.

  20. Like him or not or his policies but Eamon Ryan has been maybe one of the most effective elected officials ever in Ireland especially that he is just a very minority leader.

The greens will go into power with absolutely anyone so they will be a minority party under SF after the next election so voting on them based on who the prop up is irrelevant.

  21. I’ll be voting Fine Gael, green and probably labour. They did do the right thing and make some hard decisions in the post crash Kenny govt. Still paying for it! And picked wrong leader…

  22. I’ll 100% vote Green again. I’m no fan of FF or FG, but SF and the other left parties didn’t have the numbers for a majority, so FF, FG and Green was the only viable coalition.

They made to most of their position of kingmaker, and punched well above their weight in the programme for government. Within government, they’ve done a lot of things that I really value, including:
    – Committing to ambitious greenhouse targets, particularly in the agricultural sector. Under the Climate Act we’ve made a legal commitment to halve emissions by 2030
    – Changing the transport budget to favour public transport over roads
    – Substantially improving cycle and pedestrian facilities near schools
    – Refunded the National Parks and Wildlife service
    – Reforming our forestry strategy, prioritising broadleaf trees over Sitka Spruce monoculture
    – Putting the cost-rental model into law
    – Committed to retrofitting homes
    – Universal Basic Income for artists during covid

I fully expect SF to get enough TDs in the next election to lead a coalition of the left. To do so, they’ll definitely need Labour and SocDems. If that’s not enough, SF will turn to the Greens before PBP, as the latter are likely to be flaky coalition partners. It all depends how many TDs the Greens get next time. If they get at least 5, I think it’s highly likely they’ll be returned to government
