Baltic states are really brave to speak up with having Russia on its borders and so many ethnic Russian people in their homelands. I wonder what Russians in Latvia, Lithiania and Estonia think about war? 🇪🇪🇱🇹🇱🇻
Is ok they’ll not win anyway.
I thought international sports competitions arent a place for politics.
Easterns were quite eager to moan about this year’s world cup politization by Western countries.
Something changed?
We should all boycott it.
Anyone who argues it to be discriminating to ban Russian athletes from competing is foolish.
Most sports in Russia are state funded. Imo, a ban would primarily target the federation and not the individual athletes. One could even argue that, seeing how much Putin loves sports and especially receiving medals for Russia, a ban would primarily target him personally.
Anyone who follows any sport on an international level should have noticed how many doping scandals Russian athletes have accumulated in the last decade. Even after Russia received a ban after Sochi 2014 and their athletes competed under a different flag, nothing changed.
As a huge fan of figure skating, I very well remember the enormous scandal about Kamila Valiewa last Spring and how the Russian federation exploited and used that 15 year old girl for their propaganda. How everything was set in motion to let the girl skate, despite her having a positive doping test. It was incredibly unfair to anyone else competing.
I’ve heard how many top Russian athletes made comments or showed signs justifying the invasion of Ukraine.
These athletes do not reflect the Olympic spirit and values and should be excluded from international events. Russian athletes should be allowed to compete as soon as Russia ends its war in Ukraine.
I can only hope that my own country agrees with the Baltic leaders on this.
