People in this sub love to say “if you want to kill someone and get away with it, run them over in your car”.
Similarly, if you want to kill someone, get away with it and also be showered with sympathy from dog nutters, get some pitbulls/staffies/American XLs.
We already know this type of dog kills the most people by far, but the number of other animals they kill and people they ‘only’ disfigure every year without any penalty is absurd.
It’s the breed. Ban Ambull and the variants.
People saying otherwise are just parroting the catchy slogan of “It’s bad owners not bad dogs”.
It’s horseshit and it seems finally that people are starting to realise it.
Saw a fact the other day that UK dog numbers increased by more than 25% in 2021. Rising from 9 to 12 million.
Making up my own statistics now, but I’d be confident guessing the majority of dogs, 50%+, are not properly looked after. In terms of breeding, walks, time left alone, diet, picking up poo, vets, grooming, training etc.
I love dogs, but we need a plan to deal with the increasing number of dogs and in particular the increasing amount of fatal attacks. My 3 thoughts.
1. Licences for breeders first. I know dogs might get pregnant accidentally, but the backyard breeders need stopping for many reasons.
2. A licence for all dogs, with legal requirement to be microchipped. Then any unlicensed or unchipped dog can be seized easily. This would likely only happen after reports or dog getting loose. Then requirements for annual vet check/vaccination, should be happening anyway. At this check maybe they can be assessed for aggression, at least advice can be given.
3. Harsher legal punishments for mistreatment of dogs and for the owner to be more responsible for the dogs action. Your dog bites another dog, £X fine. Bites a person £XX. Puts someone in hospital or kills them you should be in jail.

Time to stop farting around. We need the following:
* mandatory dog licencing with sampled DNA and microchips
* fighting breeds banned. Any animal with over 30% fighting breed DNA is destroyed. Any animal with 10-30% fighting breed DNA is sterilised
* sterilise all “show-line” dogs – the Kennel Club has been monstrously irresponsible in allowing the breeding of dogs unable to walk or even breathe properly, and its cruel to let this continue
* any dog found in public without a chip gets destroyed
* owners become 100% legally responsible for direct injury to persons or animals
Am sure there’s other things we can include, but this is the minimum for having and maintaining responsible dog ownership.
