I saw this at a store in Austria in an „everyday clothes section” and thought it was a cute, kind of a historical crop top. So I bought it and when I brought it home, I found out that it was a part of a traditional German/Austrian dress, dirndl. I do not plan on wearing it with a dirndl, since I do not own one and I can’t even buy it, because I’m a foreigner.
So, my question is if it would be inappropriate to wear this as a crop top… What do you think?

Nobody cares, just wear it the way you want. Or to say it in austrian: Is ma wurscht.
Depends on where you plan on wearing it. If you’re gonna wear it in Austria, Germany or any other place where a lot of people wear Dirndl then they’re going to recognize it as a Dirndl blouse and yeah you might get you a few weird looks. IMO it basically counts as undergarment. But of course if you really want to wear it then just do.
If you’re going to wear it in a country where people have never heard of Dirndl before then I guess you’d be fine. Unless it’s a bit see-through, which Dirndl blouses often are so you should check that.
Its completely “wuarscht” (not important) how you wear it.
We austrians do not have such strong bounds with that kind of clothes. Only a few people in remote villages would probably become angry.
On the other hand, they become angry of whatever they not aware of.
you can also wear sneakers to a suit. well, wait ..
at the wrong time and place others might consider it as faux pas at other occassions nobody cares.

Why wouldn’t you be able to buy one ? There are lots of shops that sell them online.
Just order one if you like it.
No reason not to do so as long as you fancy how it looks.
Is ma wurscht as long as you enjoy wearing it
My opinion is wear whatever you want and however you want to wear it. As long as you like it, it‘s perfect.
don’t worry, austrians are already selling them as “sexy top” themselves 😉

Wrong? Not at all.
Slightly odd? Yeah, sort of.
But I still think it could look pretty nice with the right outfit.
is wuarscht as long as you like it
Geh loss doch anfoch
Thankfully we are not American, so we won’t pretend to be offended by some cultural appropriation crap.
But it might look a little weird without the rest…
If you like it wear it!
I’ve seen women here wearing uglier stuff. So no need to worry bout anything.
We’re not like americans and call you racist instantly and say it’s cultural appropriation.
Combine it with a pair of Lederhosen shorts with matching suspenders —> profit
Like a lot of people have pointed out Austrians/Germans will recognize it as a Diandl blouse and some might find it weird. However do what you want to do. Just a small tip, they sometimes are a bit see-through and the elastic at the bottom might not go straight across/ look a little wonky (depends on your body) because it’s not meant to not be seen. Side note, if the material is not stretchy, try and move around, to make sure it doesn’t move upwards in the wrong place. If it fits you properly, go out and have fun with your new crop top.
Relax wear whatever you want and fuck what people want you to wear or look like. I am from austria like most here and me and everyone i know couldnt Care less if someone wants to Mix His clothes.. Nobody will be offended
I think it would look cool. And our national pride is not so developed as to find it anyhow offensive, so go for it
Well ig it’s wrong, but nobody really cares. So if you think it looks nice, go ahead
No, it isn’t wrong at all.
I think it’s actually a pretty good way of showing that the traditional Austrian style can be quite ‘in’, or at least reintodruce it.
Looks good to Jeans.
as an austrian i say – wear it however you like, I bet it’ll look cute with bell bottom jeans.
You can certainly buy a dirndl, no matter where you are from. People don’t wear em all that often anyways and it’s nice to see people enjoying our countries fashion. Keep in mind, Dirndls are usually worn to special, more traditional occasions but it doesn’t matter much if you decide to wear one whenever!
Don’t use it for a sexy bar wench costume and you’re good.
what the fuck does “can’t buy one because I’m a foreigner” even mean?
anybody that claims austrians have an issue with cultural appropriation has spent too much time on reddit, especially on us-based threads …
if anything, austrians would prefer you ditch whatever cultural heritage you have, and appropriate the austrian culture as much as humanly possible, claiming that it would be “proper integration”. which in and of itself is a whole different can of problems to open, as it is wrong and demeaning of people’s heritage, but yeah, if anything, then _that’s_ the actual situation. never heard of austrians complaining about foreigners adopting austrian culture.
edit: typos.
No. It goes hard
Wear what you like and what/how much you feel is appropriate for the occasion.
Realistically, if you wear any piece of Tracht there’s a chance people will see you as a Landei. But that’s about it.
hottest thing a girl can wear

Na
Well i would need a picture of you wearing it to truly judge if its appropriate or not.
But as always, if you have “holz vor da hüttn” it should be OK
Are you afraid of getting cancelled for cultural appropriation or something? Just wear what you want.
No
Cool you got yourself the Porn Dirndl
You can wear these without dirndl and there is no need to worry about “cultural appropriation”, as others have already pointed out.
When looking for combinations of these with jeans, [picture results](https://www.google.com/search?tbm=isch&tbs=rimg:CbfTW4FYJjyVYZZmOnQna-NLsgIMCgIIABAAOgQIABAB) can sometimes lean towards cheap looks, but you can also wear this combination with style, and yours looks suitable for that.
Also nice in combination with a [fitting skirt](https://i.etsystatic.com/23456936/r/il/bc98d0/3914915868/il_fullxfull.3914915868_qa57.jpg) that does not have to be a dirndl.
If u are in lower Austria u only should buy 1
If your worried about being culturally insensitive; don’t be, but you might get a couple of wered looks, if you just ware it like a normal shirt because, lets be honest, nobody acetually wears Dirndl anymore
Not wrong, just cringe
