  1. The oath, for those interested:

    >I N.N. pledge pladge and assure
    >
    >- before the almighty and all-knowing God (religious),
    >
    >- through my honour and conscience (not religious),
    >
    >that I am a reliable and loyal citizen of the republic of Finland. I want to serve my country honestly and to the best of my ability to seek and promote its benefit and best.
    >
    >I want everywhere and in all situations, in times of peace and war, to defend the integrity of my homeland, its legal state order, and the legal prerogative of the republic. If I discover or find out something is being done to defeat the legal authority or subvert the country’s order, I want to report it to the authorities without delay.
    >
    >I will not leave the group I belong to and my position under any circumstances, and as long as I have the strength, I will complete the task I was given.
    >
    >I promise to behave in a decent and orderly manner, obey my superiors, comply with laws and regulations, and keep well the service secrets entrusted to me. I also want to be direct and helpful towards my comrades in arms. Never because of kinship, friendship, envy, hatred or fear, nor because of gifts or any other reason, do I act contrary to my duty of service.
    >
    >If I am placed in a leadership position, I want to be fair to my subordinates, take care of their well-being, obtain information about their wishes, be their advisor and guide and, on my own behalf, strive to be a good and encouraging example for them.
    >
    >I want to fulfil all this according to my honour and conscience.

  2. Always appreciated the frank, no-bullshit attitude of the Finn’s.

Such an obvious contrast to their Russian neighbors.

  3. Is that RK 95 TP rifles?

Kinda envious looking at the spec: 3,7 kg. 30 rounds 7.62×39 mm ammunition.

Meanwhile I had to carry around an AK 4 ( a Swedish HK G-3) 20 rounds 7.62×51 mm ammunition, weighing 5,3 kg when loaded… >_<

  4. The temperature had been pretty mild most of the time, but dropped for just a couple of days for the oath ceremony and it’s practice… Now it’s forecasting around 0 degrees Celsius for next week. Well at least we got a story out of this.

  5. Conscription is pointless and just a way for wannabe “hard men” politicians to make propaganda. Nothing but slavery with a different name to make it seem acceptable to the public.

An oath means nothing if the person saying it dosen’t belive in it.

You can’t force people to belive in something, no matter how hard you try. All you will do is create bitterness and resentment.

The poor souls forced to fight for somebody else war will mutiny or desert at the first opportunity.

No matter what foolish laws you write, you can’t change human nature. And humans above all else want to be free, to have agency and control of their own lives.
