Can someone please tell me whats the difference between 1 and 2?

  1. First and second class. First class is usually only in InterCity trains, where the second class has also decent quality and air conditioning. First class has only 3 seats in a row instead of 4.

  2. Buy 2nd class. After inspection you can sit wherever you want if there are empty seats (usually a ton of free seats in 1st class).

  3. Itt doesn’t really matter of you travel First or Second class on these trains, important is to visit the “Csiga Pékség” bakery near the Trainstation in Szeged, and buy 1 “Pizzás csiga” and 1 ” Mogyorókrémes rúd”.

Mind you, I sadly haven’t visited the city since 2020

  4. Couple of years ago the system looked like this:
1 train, the first car is IC 1st class, 2nd(-3rd) car(s) IC 2nd class – these have AC and you have a dedicated seat (mostly. sometimes they mess up and sell more tickets than seats and such) in an open car, 3 or 4 seats in a row and maybe wifi.
The rest of the cars are regular express / rapid, 2nd class, no AC, 6 seater cabins or something like that.

Same train, but cheaper and of course less comfy.
I guess they still operate like that.

  5. On most trains there is little difference between 1st class and 2class but in the Budapest-Szeged line there is usually a much cleaner toilet, small tables for each seat and a small bar in 1st class. Source: I used the line in December.

Otherwise, you meet less beggars and less of other unpleasant travelling companions in 1st class. (In 2nd I once had this guy 1 row over from me snort his snot and cough slime on the window for 2 hours.)

  6. It also worth looking for 1+ class, which is the premium (the first class you are expecting). These are not always available and not listed by default, you need to specifically check it under “Detailed search”. If it is available, you’ll be seated in a cabin of the bistro car. Show your ticket at the bar to redeem a free tea or coffee.

  7. You get a reserved seat on the more expensive one. You might have to stand if you choose the cheaper but the chances for that are very low unless you travel on Friday or Sunday afternoon.
Also the expensive one has some tables, A/C, and the seats are in pairs, while with the other one you sit in a booth with 8 seats.

Edit: nvm I fucked it up. I thought it was InterCity

  8. Brain damage, like there’s no such thing as 1st or 2nd class anywhere else. If this ain’t a troll post, we got some serious issues let me tell you.

  9. Btw both of them are IC. There are 3 options on the same train. It is funny but the 2 cheapest are the IC. They are on the same train but different vagons. The yellow is the first class IC (these are really new, have been changed last year) The other one is IC 2. class. You have seat resevation on both.

The last one is the express class(really old and dirty).

  10. Class 2 has never even had electricity from my experience, and I’ve traveled with quite a few trains.

  11. 2 is 2nd class, 1 is 1st.

It depends on your needs, really. 1st class is more comfortable (bigger seats, sometimes – if you’re lucky – you can seat in IC+ cars which are newer and way better, has quiet and premium booths, a really nice hall area and a small buffet), and – my main reason – has a cleaner toilet usually, but I’m not familiar with the Szeged line. I use the Tokaj IC (BP Keleti -> Nyíregyháza) 4 times a month, mainly because of these reasons I take the first class always.

And with first class you can use the Business Lounge on the Keleti railway station, where you can eat and drink all you want from a selection of free goods.
