Dia duit! Kia Ora from New Zealand. A map I drew of Ireland recently.

  1. Beautiful. For future revisions, it’s generally accepted that the best term for the island is ´Éire, or Éireann if speaking of the personification (which you can get away with if you’re saying the Island of..”. Erin would be an anglicization.. not technically wrong, just unusual. (I see in another post you’ve also noted the misspelling of Connacht).

To be fair to you though, I can barely spell half the things in NZ, and don’t get me started on trying to pronounce Aotearoa or Tauranga.

Excellent work though – appreciate that you’ve included lots of the county “capital” towns.

  2. Lovely map.

Just on the name. Ireland, Éire or if you want Oileán na Éireann (Island of Ireland.)

    Never Erin…. 🙂

  3. You may have spelt Connaught wrong, but you get 100% for spelling the county and city ‘Derry’ correctly.

Nothing worse than seeing those six hateful letters in front of it.

  4. The accuracy of the map is great, I would not give a tupenny shite about any spelling mistakes to be honest. I think it is an amazing job.

Most artists are, and should be always allowed discrepancies, it adds to the picture not just imo (in others too).

Many ‘early versions’ of peoples work has included mistakes, and is worth much more money now than the ‘fixed’ version(s).

I would proudly display that in my house, and know that people have looked at it, because they would feel compelled to come back to me and tell me about the ‘mistakes’.

“Good. I made a decision to hang that in my house, I am happy that you are properly viewing it, rather than glancing.” – A good conversation piece.

Great job, amazingly accurate and I love the 3D effect of the sea around the island too.
