☹️ what about the non-front line workers who are working?
Unless I’m mistaken, they should all get an annual leave day? Or do they have completely different legal rules around public holidays
The new bank holiday wasn’t just in recognition of front line workers. It was in **”recognition of the efforts of the general public, volunteers and all workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, and in remembrance of people who lost their lives due to the COVID-19 pandemic.”** Basically everyone.
The primary source of banter in the office this week was joking about all the mad St Brigid’s day parties that going to be going on.
I hate bank holidays . Wrap shift for every one , no extra pay . Tight fucks

When you laugh at people who have to work Monday and then you realise, you also have to work on Monday.
2.5x pay, I am fine with it
Working night shift, thanks for extra pay.
This bank holiday pussed me off as hospitality industry worker.
A specially when we were brought in to make “meaningful Xmas” for all people and after 3 weeks they shoved us back under the rug. Worked 17 years in a kitchen and I haven’t had Meaningful cristmas in my life, but made it for thousands of people.
With new bank Holiday it just made another “No life/busy weekend” for people who were Front line people.
It was the last straw for me last year and I walked away completely from this hell of an industry. Back to education and I already feel like getting my life back again after 17 years. And this is my first bank holiday in all those years I looked forward too.
Screwfix, being British, isn’t even doing bank holiday hours. If you need tools or whatnot, they open at 7am and close at 8pm.
St Bridget still works nights.
I hear some have not even got their 1000 euro yet.
What about all the retail workers who have to work Public Holidays and only get flat rate pay +10%!
This requires legislation. If people have to work outside of normal working hours and days, please, please, make it a statutory obligation to pay them at a rate appropriate to the inconvenience in their lives and the lives of their family members.
We have an obscene disregard for some of the frontline people in our society. We’re becoming a nation of SELFISH BASTARDS!
