Hej, my wife and I are going to visit Sweden in august with our van. Do you have recommendations what we have to visit/see in this region?

Thats a pretty big area to ask for random things to do. You have to narrow it down to things you like to do
Just slightly above your circle, there is a city called “Rättvik” which is beautiful, and who have one of swedens longest wooden jetty.
There is also a wooden lookout tower at the top of the “mountain” next to the city, which is 28m high and is 328m above sealevel. You can take the car there.
On top of that, there is also a huge lake where you can find meteorite if you dig around in the sand.
I’m certain you wouldn’t regret it going there. It’s also close to the place where they create and handpaint original Dalahästar, nusnäs. There you can also find Moraknivs factory and store. A piece of swedish history.
Gränna, Öland
I would recomend passing by Jönköping on the E4, where I would argue you’ll find some of the best scenery in the country.
Otherwise you’ve circled in basically all of populated Sweden. I would recommend beautifull cities such as Kalmar, Norrköping, Stockholm and places like Lysekil. The west coast is also very beautifull, but beware it takes around 4 h from Jönköping to Stockholm, and 7,5 h from Malmö to Stockholm.
It’s not too small of a country.
You’ve got to say what you like, bro.
Ask yourself and your wife what you like. Be it nature, architecture, night life or whatever
Bohuslän
Ales Stenar (south) or Anundshög (north) in your zone. if you’re okay with not staying in the big cities for a day. They’re stone monuments that are just awesome. Just go on YouTube and search for them.
Welcome to non-norrland
You definitely need to visit österlen in skåne, nature is very beautiful reminds me of a fairytale kinda. There’s a lot of different orchards and Kiviks musteri is super nice and you can buy a lot of drinks made of their fruits from the orchards.
I live farily close and me and my family is always visiting different parts during the summer.
Vadstena!
Glimmingehus, Ale stenar, Visby, Varbergs fästning, Kyrkö mosse, Universeum (in Gothenburg)…
Gotland
“This region”
Goes ahead and circles a third of Sweden.
It will cost you time and money, but Gotland (the biggest island) is beautiful in the summer.
Tylösand in Halmstad!
you should absolutely come to gothenburg, i’m not biased i promise.
Gothenburg is lovely. Especially the islands outside of it. We also have Liseberg, and much much more culture such as museums etc. Let me know if you need a parking lot / access to laundry machine while you’re here!
Head to Jönköping, and when travelling north go past Gränna and see the small town / the waterfalls. Aneby has sort of cool waterfall as well, but not as pretty.
The kebab (or vegetarian version if that’s your thing) in Jönköping is also godlike.
Check out Göta Canal. A canal with a ton och locks between the lakes Vänern & Vättern.
There is also another canal west of Vänern called Dalslands Kanal.
Also check Tiveden, a national park between the lakes: [https://www.sverigesnationalparker.se/park/tivedens-nationalpark/](https://www.sverigesnationalparker.se/park/tivedens-nationalpark/)
Stockholms archipelago. There are boattrips out there from Stockholm and Vaxholm
Karlskrona is a Unesco World Heritage site and, I may be partial, gorgeous.
Gotland is beautiful – medieval town with the original wall around the whole city
Bockstensmannen.
Österlen (SSE): The whole of this place is beutiful. Some places to check out in particular is Kivik musteri (apple cider manufacturer), Stenshuvud (a national park close to Kivik, beautifull with white little flowers in spring). Åhus is a popular place to vacation.
Tykarps grotta (S): a cave that might be fun to spelonk with kids.
Malmö (SSW): a nice summer town. 3rd largest city in Sweden. Nice beach with a cold bath house. Great restaurants. Fun culture. Lomma beach N from Malmö is also a popular place.
Kullaberg (SSW) N of Helsingborg: is a peninsula with a light house and a beutiful nature. There is also an artists construction of drift wood “buildings” called Nimis that might be fun to see.
Varberg (SW): they have a fortress, with an exhibit of a man they found in the peat.
Gothenburg (W): lots of stuff to do. Go for boat ride out to the fortress in the inlet of the canal. Or go to other different fortresses in the city. There is also a fortress N of Gothenburg in Kungälv. Go out on a boat trip around the island Hisingen (3h) and see the sights and have dinner. Lots of different beaches to visit.
Lysekil (NW): is a summer place for tourists and a popular one. Se the sea museum. Go about in town or the many beaches.
There are many good places to visit. I would search best tourist attractions.
Welcome to Sweden!
Tiveden nature reserve, wonderful nature to walk around in, swim, kayak, picnic. You can rent small cabins in the middle of the forest, some with access to jacuzzis in the middle of a lake or saunas with views of the lake.
When down in mid Skåne, ye should visit rövarekulan national forest! Is a beautiful ravine with a river going true it! If ye like the sea/cliffs, Mölle is nice too! It’s also in Skåne!
The museum of technology in Stockholm
the Spårvägsmuseet, also in stockholm
Gamla Linköping is also a cool place with lots of history
Also universeum in Gothenburg is a must see as well as the archipelagos in Stockholm and Gothenburg
This is only advice for nature. Mainly from the view as a landscape photographer. So I’m biased towards nature places which are fun to photograph in.
The south part of Sweden has a lot of beautiful national Parks and nature reserves. Some of my favorite is Söderåsen and Stenshuvud. Really lush beech forests. However if you’re coming from central Europe you will probably find more impressive beech forests there. The south of Sweden might not be so unique for you even though a lot of us will recommend it.
If you want truly Swedish forests, Tiveden national park is a must, very beautiful.
I have loads of location tagged landscape photos on my site if you want to get a feel for the different parts (again, from the view of a landscape photographer) https://kallers.se
EDIT: I have now added almost twice as many locations and tagged all photos to a location.
Mölle
The archipelagos of Gothenburg! Truly amazing!
Check put Astrid Lindgrns värld. Great if you have kids. Otherwise, not unless you are a huge Astrid buff.
In Västra Götaland region: visit Kinnekulle. Magical view and pretty nature. Billingen is pretty too. Just outside the city of Alingsås, there’s an old steam railway around a lake. It’s a nice view, and you’ll stop by the ruins of a castle.
Göteborg has Liseberg amusement park, the largest in Scandinavia (i think), and some great restaurants, nightlife etc. Beautiful city too. In the summer there’s plenty of concerts there.
On the edge of lake Vänern, you have Läckö castle. Its worth a detour.
Bengtsfors. You have to see Bengtsfors.
“This region”…proceeds to circle almost everywhere I have lived in Sweden.
Stockholm is hands down one of the most beautiful capitals in the world during summertimes. Just hope for good weather because august can be quite stormy.
Uppsala has Scandinavia’s largest cathedral, a nearly 500-year old university and a castle all within spitting distance from each other. All are downtown and close to lunch venues or cafés. Makes for a good daytrip.
Borås!
Medeltidsveckan in Visby on Gotland, should be week 32. Massive historical market with cool people, live music everywhere and all round good vibes
Make sure to stay away from that disgusting Island in the bottom left corner
Since you are probably going to Stockholm at some point, I would advise you to also take the roughly 70km trip north to Uppsala. It is Sweden’s fourth largest city, and has the biggest cathedral in the entire Nordic region, with two 120m church towers.
