I filled out my tax return for 2020 and 2021 using Taxfix. A few days ago, I received a letter from the tax office regarding my 2021 tax return.

[This is the letter.](https://imgur.com/w4SjQHR)

At the top of the letter, it mentions my wife’s and my names. It’s weird because we filled out our tax returns separately.

I don’t understand this letter. What do they want me to do? Do they want a document from me or my wife? Thanks in advance for the help.

  1. They are saying that you haven’t submitted your tax returns. Are you sure that the 2021 returns were submitted successfully?

  2. It says you have to file your tax return for 2021 and that you can ignore this letter if you did. I would contact them and ask.

  3. You didn’t submit your income tax declaration for 2021. You must submit it until 9th March 2023.
If you already did it than you can ignore this letter.
Are you sure you submitted the income tax declaration for both 2020 and 2021?

  4. So, the question is – you said you filed your taxes separately for 2021 – but what is the expectation of the tax authority?

Did you at any point select “Gemeinveranlagung” for your taxes (because as a married couple, this usually benefits you by lowering your tax load)? In that case, you don’t file separately but have to file a joint tax declaration for example.
