State considers housing refugees in schools as it struggles to find accommodation

  1. The protests are literally complaining about strange men raping the women and kids…. So the government wants to put the men into SCHOOLS. This is just going to cause chaos

  2. Schools? I bet the idea of having a bunch of single unvetted foreign men literally residing where our children learn will go down well with parents. This is madness, pure and simple.

  3. Because as we all know…there is an abundance of schools that aren’t just fifty-seven ronka cabins and a planning permission sign.

  4. Can they not turn away refugees at this point?

I don’t understand how this is managed so badly, we live on an island ffs.

  5. Most schools around ireland are well above capacity with pupils. How on earth would there be space for people to LIVE in them

If these are the type of ridiculous solutions being put forward by the government for social problems that have been designed by this government then they need to be voted out.

  6. The only solution. Cancel schooling for the rest of the 2023 school year and increase our shipments of refugees 150%

  7. Giving immigration-skeptical people a can of petrol to pour on the fire.

How do people think the optics of housing “a horde of fighting age males” in little Timmy’s school is going to look? It’s setting the entire situation up to get even worse.

  8. There’s loads of government buildings with offices and meeting rooms, most with canteens and tea rooms and catering companies that feed the staff.

Why not send a load of civil servants and minister advisors off to work remotely again and use those government offices around the place instead of discomoding a load of schools?

  9. How about this: All those vacant properties held hostage by vulture funds and others? Seize them.

They’re desperate because they want to solve a social issue without working to solve social problems. It’s like trying to fix a flat tyre but refusing to put on a spare.

  10. The government just doesn’t want to give indigenous working class Irish cheap social housing like previous generations got. It’s a stab in the back for our young.

  11. Jesus Christ our politicians are the most useless corrupt shower of gimps. It doesn’t matter who you vote in it will never change if there’s no accountability for anything. Scandal after scandal and all we hear is “lessons must be learned”. This gombeenery will break the country.

  12. We are at a point where, sadly, we can’t house anymore. Like it or not, there is a housing shortage. Using institutions to house refugees would require money to make them habitable. What about old convents?

  13. I am from Armagh so please excuse me not being fully clued in here….

If you lads are struggling so badly with the refugee situation, then at what point does someone say *sorry lads but we are full to bursting?*

I dont know who many refugee’s you have, but from what I can gather its getting to the point where yiz are struggling to look after them and thats setting aside your own domestic housing issues.

Surely its time that someone told the EU, that for now yiz cant handle anymore refugees.

  14. Could the government not just be honest and say that we don’t have the capacity or capability to take in any more refugees? Could they not just swallow their pride?

  15. Teacher here. You’re telling me that stuff that students and myself (resources etc) own could be used and removed by people staying in the schools during school/summer etc? Who’s to say they won’t?. No. Child protection issues with our files, student work…? No. Not happening. No.

Some kids have issues with regulation in the mornings from home never mind thinking whats been going on overnight with people living in the schools.? What about summer provision? Just no. No. No. No. No.

Honestly, the more I’m here, the more I think I’m done with this country. Please help me with the needs of my students currently of which we have to fight for supports, rather than putting up non citizens in our schools and affecting our own country’s future by affecting kids education further!!

  16. There’s a closed down school in limerick where they’re being housed already. They school had been closed for like 20 years and apparently there aren’t adequate showering facilities etc
The nursing home I used to work at closed down and moved all the residents in order to house refugees last year. I had left before that that happened but a lot of the staff were just let go. Oh and we never got our pandemic bonus .
