Misogyny should not be made a hate crime in the UK, according to a review

  1. We should class incels as a extremist group under the terror act. If Greenpeace are on the UK terror list then that shit show of hatred and misogyny should be too.

  2. > Misogyny should not be made a hate crime

I was about to say it should be, and so should Misandry, but then on reading the article..

    > Instead, the Law Commission recommended of extending the offence of stirring up hatred to sex and gender, saying it would help tackle the growing threat of “incel” ideology and suggested ministers set up a review into the need for a specific offence of public sexual harassment.

…it sort of reads like that’s what they’re recommending? That rather than targeting one gender in ‘misogyny’, more general protection be considered for all sexes and genders.

I hope I’m reading that intention correctly, as that sounds ‘better’ as long as it translates to something meaningful.

  3. I don’t understand why Misogyny specifically should be a hate crime…. Surely anything illegal would be covered by existing laws anyway

  4. > Instead, the Law Commission recommended of extending the offence of stirring up hatred to sex and gender, saying it would help tackle the growing threat of “incel” ideology

They really don’t get this whole “incel” thing, do they?

It’s not some kind of special club for men who want to be arseholes towards women. It’s a disparate collection of men who, whether they identify using the word “incel” or not, have difficulties finding, forming, and retaining romantic and/or sexual relationships.

Trying to “solve” inceldom by saying “it’s mean to say bad things to women” is arse-backwards, they’re not incels *because they hate women*, they’re incels *because they can’t form relationships with women*. That doesn’t automatically mean they *hate* women, in fact they’d give their right bollock to be with one, they’re just lonely, pissed off, and excluded from a perfectly natural set of acts and emotions which society says they’re worthless for not being capable of experiencing.

Saying they’re not allowed to talk shit to/about women won’t solve the fact that they’re still going to be lonely, pissed off, and excluded. *Especially* if women are still allowed to talk shit about men.

The problem will still exist, incels will still exist, those men will still be (or feel as though they are) incapable of forming those relationships. You can’t legislate away a faction of society which feels left out and screwed over by telling them they can’t say bad things. You just can’t. You might make a few of them quiet down a bit, you might arrest a few for tweeting something stupid, but they’re still going to be there, still forming their groups, still single, still frustrated, and still becoming increasingly incapable of repairing their psychological damage.

  5. If they are going to try to make it a hate crime, they should add Misandry in too.

You cannot make it for one group and let the other go.

  6. I don’t think it should be a hate crime, since it’ll far too open to abuse and could potentially criminalize normal acts.

Example: I’m sat at the front of a bus, all other seats are empty. A woman gets on (she’s not disabled or with a child), asks me to move. I politely say no, sorry, and advise her that there are other seats. Woman screams I’m not moving because she’s a woman, police are called, and I’m arrested for a hate crime.

An extreme example, but you can see how easy it would be to abuse it.
