  1. 100km from where my sister lives, texting her in order not to overload GSM services but she is not answering. I wanna believe they are just sleeping tight but that doesn’t sound plausible. Apparently it was felt 700km away in Ankara.

To give you an idea, modern Türkiye’s worst tragedy was Gölcük earthquake back in 1999. It was 7,4 yet killed over 15,000 people even according to the most optimistic estimations.

EDIT: I was able to contact her. Was hard to hear much because of sirens. Apparently our peeps are fine but my sister’s husband told me they had to pass through many buildings that were completely destroyed on their way to his mother’s place. I saw vids of houses breaking apart several hundred kilometers away. Gaziantep is a big city not far from other big guns like Adana or Mersin. We’ll wake up to an extremely dark day in Turkey, I don’t even know what to say.

  2. Oof, just heard it and checking twitter….. Lots of footage of collapsed buildings. Even videos of people stuck inside.

This is going to require international help.

  3. The major quake was followed by aftershocks with magnitude of 6.6, 5.6, 4.3, 5.2 and 4.7 in under an hour.

I am speechless, nobody could imagine something like that in their worst scenario.

  4. I am still in shock. So many people are trapped under the buildings. We are trying to rescue the people we can reach now with AFAD. Please pray for us.

  5. Turkish guy reporting:

    1) One of the biggest in Turkey’s history, happened in south region

    2) Many buildings, hospitals etc collapsed

    3) Ankara slightly affected

    4) Istanbul not affected

  6. Damn this is fucked.

Been watching Twitter videos over the last 15 mins, and it’s not looking great.

  7. A lot of people on Twitter sharing their location while under the debris. Hope they all can taken out safely. It rains in some areas and close to 0 C°.

  8. Government officially declared we need international aid support. It’s one of the biggest earthquakes the country is ever seen and it happened during 4am when everyone was asleep and snowstorm was going on.

  9. We got hit in Şanlıurfa and our walls are wrecked. There are some buildings destroyed and some casualties are reported.
