Kahramanmaraş, Southern Hatay, Southern Adana and Northern Gaziantep are said to have been wiped off the map. The earthquake was felt even from Mosul. While Afrin and Haram district are destroyed in Syria, even the Russian military base in Latakia has collapsed.
Revised M7.7, as big as the first and only at a depth of 2km. Happened on the parallel fault.
Secondary quakes of M5.9 and M5.6.
Edit: Revised again to M7.5
Horrific. Hoping everyone is safe and sound.
Felt in Ankara. It’s incredible what is happening right now.
This should now be expected for a few following weeks.
Many European Commenting ‘’Well deserved’’ in Twitter how people can be this bad
Man earthquake just seems like a thing we are utterly helpless against. This looks horrifying.
7.5 on its own is devastating, I can’t imagine how much further damage it has done as an aftershock
Fuck.
This is horrible. Thoughts and prayers with all the Turkish people.
Sending thoughts and prayers to the people affected 🙏
This brought tears watching. Prayers for everyone
Jesus fucking Christ.. nature, **fucking stop already!**
Thoughts and prays not enough they need assistance asap
I still have trouble sleeping at night from our 2020 6.4M earthquake.. Can’t even imagine what this must feel like.. Absolutely terrible
The 6.4 near my city a few years ago was terrifying. I don’t even wanna know how they feel. I hope my mate and his family are okay
Oh god!
Thoughts and prayers with our Turkish friends, I can’t believe this is happening. I hope all survivors managed to run away after the first earthquake.

Oh man. I hope people are safe.
NATO countries should not send anything unless Turkey agrees to Sweden joining. Now this will be real hardball negotiations 😡
This is probably the most disastrous day of our nation. There is also a snow storm and extreme cold weather expected in the affected area. If we don’t act quickly, death toll would be unimaginable.
I am away from the region but as local community, we are collecting the supplies for aid. As a service fit guy, I am also preparing myself for a possible mobilization order from army.
BTW I don’t think we can recover from this. At this moment any help from other countries would be highly appreciated. If you want to help us, please get in touch with your local government or organizations for the donations.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen in anything like this in my lifetime before. Same location being hit by 2 major earthquakes within like 10 hours. People waiting for rescue now got hit by a second one, and maybe even the rescuers need rescue now, this is very worrying.
I guess 2or 3 cities will have to be rebuilt at this point. Can’t imagine there nightmare people already under rubble were feeling at this point.
Our home in Hatay is gone. It survived the first earthquake but the second one was too much. All tenants seem to be fine, but I can’t get in touch with the better part of my family. Most buildings that haven’t collapsed already will have to be torn down due to the damage. A city of hundreds of thousands is pretty much gone now.
Its God punishing the people for allowing Erdogan to stay in power, unfortunately.
For avoid misunderstanding this is not Aftershock earthquake we have 34 aftershock earthquakes. ( high Magnitudes was 6,6.2,6.4) This is a new Earthquake totally different line and aftershocks for it expected.
This can’t be. Two shockwaves this powerful so close in time…
It’s appalling, as another earthquake-prone nation, I hope Italy gives all the support it can
I might be torn apart for this, yet the truth needs to be spoken out: Earthquakes are natural disasters that can’t be prevented.
Nevertheless can damages and loss of human life be limited by introducing policy to ensure safe building standards and organized quick response. Turkey unfortunatly lacks both.
Due to wide-spread corruption and lack of government oversight and regulation, the building quality can be disgustingly bad: missing steel reinforcements and rebar, flawed foundations, hollow walls and beams filled with sand and dirt.
There isn’t proper land use planing as buildings are build tightly build next to each other. Buildings appear anywhere even on grounds obviously not suitable for construction. In the past, there was criticism that there are no large empty areas for people to gather safely as every squaremeter of ground is used for building construction.
There’s already reports about emergency agency AFAD being overwhelmed and people are left to themselves.
I am saying this as a Turkish person. This shouldn’t be politicized some might argue. But how often did we adhere to this principle just to see that those in charge hide behind this noble thought and evade responsibility? The problems I’ve listed are known for decades. Experts have warned the government time and time again to implemented changes.
Yet nothing happened and the pictures remain the same.
Holy shit. Hope international help arrive as soon as possible.
Felt it in Romania
Turkey and rebel held Syria (which is the worst affected as the epicenter was around 100 miles from the rebel held border). needs all the help it can get. Hope the Gulf countries and Europe step up.
What the hell!? Some terrifying forces at work with these earthquakes. Fuck.. really really hope for the best for everyone affected

This one – magnitude 7.5 – is an independent earthquake from the first one (with magnitude 7.7).
