for casual skating around on a lake, not trekking across long distances, is it preferable to use dedicated recreational skates such as these

or a long platform attached to boots such as these

i understand the lunghags are good because the long blade provide more stability on uneven surfaces. but maybe because the attachments to boots is not secure (like with dedicated binding and boots would be), the control is not so great?

  1. Hook up with the local dnt turskøyte group and you can get to test both to find out what you prefer. Also, if you have som stiff bc or nnn boots, consider that option.

That said, straps on, as long as you have stiff enough boots can be nice just from the logistics. Much less of a hassle to carry if you have to walk a non-trivial distance.

  2. Skating on dedicated skates are easier than on strap on skates. You can get skates with different size blades depending on how fast and what you are using it for. It looks like you linked to a hockey skate, but if you search for skates dedicated for bandy (played on football fields so a larger area), they have longer blades for faster skating. You can also buy dedicated skates for really fast/long distance skating.

You can skate on any kind of skates, but if you have a large lake and you do not plan to play hockey, bandy skates are a good compromise. They don’t turn as fast as hockey skates, but they are much faster in a straight line if you have room to really skate fast.

  3. Min ringe erfaring er at turskøyter er mye artigere enn hockeyskøyter om en skal gå et stykke og kjenne gliden, men skal en herje på mindre områder er kortere stål, som hockey bedre.
