  1. The government has presented its support package to Turkey and Syria.

Sweden will send personnel to the region and contribute seven million kroner in humanitarian aid.

    – It has been intensive work during the day, says Carl-Oskar Bohlin, Minister for Civil Defence.

the government called a press conference regarding the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

Carl-Oskar Bohlin, Minister for Civil Defence, Minister for Aid and Foreign Trade Johan Forssell and Charlotte Petri Gornitzka, Director General of the Agency for Community Protection and Preparedness, participated during the press meeting.

There it emerged that Sweden will contribute seven million in humanitarian aid:

Five million to Turkey and two million to Syria.

According to the Minister for Civil Defense Carl-Oskar Bohlin, the work at MSB, the Swedish Agency for Community Protection and Preparedness, began already during the night of Monday. Sweden will also assist with tents, blankets, food and medicines “in the acute phase”, but also command resources and command centers.

    – The world is struggling to help and gather support. Sweden will be part of the support. I am proud to be able to say that approximately ten hours after the earthquake, MSB had set things up and offered help resources, says Carl-Oskar Bohlin.

Sweden is currently cooperating with the EU but also with the Nordic countries to coordinate the aid effort.

    – There has been intensive work during the day and it is important that we respond to the needs that exist, says Charlotte Petri Gornitzka, director general of MSB.

Difficult to confirm information about Swedes in Syria
So far, there is no information about injured Swedes. They are currently creating a picture of how many Swedes can conceivably be in Turkey and Syria.

    – There are 400 people on the Swedish list for Turkey, and a few in the affected areas. Many Swedes stay in the area according to the Consulate General of Sweden in Istanbul, says Minister for Aid and Foreign Trade Johan Forssell.

In Syria, about ten people are said to be on the so-called “Swedish list”, but the number could be higher, according to Johan Forssell. Unlike in Turkey, there is scant information on how many Swedes are actually in Syria.

    – It is difficult to confirm information, above all linked to Syria, says Johan Forssell and urges Swedes on the spot to follow local recommendations, contact relatives and report to Swedish embassies.

  2. Before this turns into a complete shitshow regarding politics…

I have strong opinions on Turkey’s government and policies regarding Finland’s and Sweden’s applications to join NATO.

This is a very separate matter. These are civilians that needs help now.

Now is not the time to discuss policy.

  3. It doesn’t really matter if the two governments have problems between them, it would be simply inhumane to just watch while people are suffering even though they have the means to help.

  4. Good. We dislike the current Turkish goverment and the unjustified hatred we have received. But we are all still humans who deserves a happy life and help when needed. I would be happy to spend my taxes to help

  5. Of course Sweden did. What did people expect?
So did Denmark despite Erdogan raging against the idiot Paludan.

Natural disasters and aid is given when people need it.

  6. Now all the refugees from the crisis can find shelter in the village with all these unfinished castles in Turkey. To get a roof over their heads.

  7. Also to Syria. I wonder if the Turks will say again that we are giving weapons to PYD… again. Even though it’s only been humanitarian aid to all of Syria the entier time…..

I wonder if they consider all humanitarian aid “weapons” .

Maybe we should ask the turks if it’s ok to feed, shelter and help people they’re trying to subject

  8. Shame that Erdogan has no interest on helping Finland or Sweden. But regardless of that asshole, both decided within 12 hours to send humanitarian aid to Turkey because we won’t stoop to the Erdogan’s tactics of blackmailing.

Within the next three days Erdogan will vilify both of us for “sending only token help” and telling us to go f**k ourselves regarding NATO, again.

  9. We’ve got Sweden and Greece sending aid. Countries that Erdogan has treated poorly.

No matter how he treats them, this is still the right thing to do.

I do hope that Turks remember this when the election comes, how their incumbent leader treated these countries that so readily come to their aid. And remember that even if they vote back in this person that mistreats these allies so poorly, that even then those countries would still come to their aid, no matter what happens.

  10. Don’t see why this is news. Regular people are trapped under the rubble or injured, needing housing, food, water, heating, medical care etc. Sending aid is just plain human.

  11. Thank you so much Sweden! Weather its cold and there are hundreds waiting to be rescued under the rubbles…
