with companies being so openly diverse and inclusive, is this not contradicting this whole charade?

  1. My law studies date from the previous century, but is it indeed forbidden to select candidates for a job on the basis of their sex in Switzerland? Or is it just some kind of common sense that most employers respect?
They seem to want to enlarge the balance of employees with some kind of affirmative action… Why not? There seem to be plenty of jobs around at the moment.

  2. If they are recruiting to balance their workforce (too many men, too few women), they are let off the hook.

  3. Welcome to the corporate world where american identity politics is everything. Expect to get passed down on promotion because of your gender or race. Gotta get those Blackrock investments…

  4. Im not so sure ots illegal to hire a certain group when the goal is to balance how your workforce is setup. Sure as a men that sucks, but hey at least the write it in the add so you wont have to bother applying

  5. > is this not contradicting

Not if the majority of their managers are men, which is probably the case.

Like if you are preparing a moitié-moitié that has 90% Gruyère in it, it’s serves to add only Vacherin to reach the objective.

  6. Probably the most team member are men and they specially want to have more diversity in the team, thus they wish to hire a female candidate.

Imagine the conflict if there were quotas by law in Switzerland and everyone feeling excluded when there is a f/m requirement for applicants. then it’s either not being gender neutral or missing the quota.

  7. I mean that’s kinda what you have to do to increase diversity. Women aren’t just gonna hire themselves. Don’t worry though there’re still plenty of job opportunities out there for men.

  8. If it was illegal, you could still select people because of their gender as long as you don’t do it in the open. Hard to prevent effectivly. Also diversity isn’t always just a “cosmetic” thing. I work in nursing and having a diverse team makes work a lot easier in many cases. Don’t know about banking though…

  9. As a highly educated non-EU foreign woman, I always laugh at some of the comments in threads like these. Some of y’all have NO idea what it’s like for many of us who look like me in this country’s labor markets.

  10. The advert doesn’t say you can’t aply as a man. You also probably wouldn’t be rejected because of it. You’d probably receive some canned respones after the position has been filled.

Yes, it’s rules lawyering, but banks have scores of people who do nothing else all day 🤷‍♂️

  11. In the actual law “Gleichstellungsgesetz” it is written that explicit favouring of one grouping over another in order to reach “Gleichstellung” (Equity) is not discriminatory.

Therefore, no antidiscrimination laws can be used to stop it.

    I’m not even joking.

  12. you mean discrimination against men? HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHA I think you forgot that the white male can not be discriminated against!!!! /S

serious: while job hunting this was so annoying. They would literally tell you: “nope, sorry, looking for a woman only.” and I thought: wtf? If roles were reversed they would be all over the news, but thats how it is my friend.
