I’m still with Mega on Group buy contract through WikiPower, but they will change it to Octa+ in March. Mega send us a similar offer to cancel the change, but WikiPower quickly reacted with a claim that it’s not worth it:
I think they are predicting energy prices will drop, and want to lock you in to higher rates now on a fixed contract.
You’re better off variable anyway, as long as you can handle a temporarily increased rate from time to time, long term (we’re talking years) you’ll be paying less.
I heard some much BS from mega and an offer that seems too good to refuse, likely has a catch. ( A company wants to make money after all)
Would touch that at all 🤣
All i know is that Mega can’t be trusted. The fixed monthly advance was twice what the online simulation showed what i was supposed to pay. Refused to lower it after a heavy discussion on the phone. Now after 6 months they have to pay back 1900€.
the discount is only for the “vaste vergoeding” i would say. meaning extra fees to MEGA, not the electricity price.
so you save 70€ in a year for paying your bills on time? at best, if the price doesn’t drop or change.
also the flex says you pay 16€ vaste vergoeding, lol. why would you go to 70€
This is just a trick to show you a fancy discount number imo. and then they add, “you are the lucky first 10k” bullshit.
Ik wacht nog steeds op een herziening van een afrekening (sinds augustus al!!)! Na veel gezaag en veel te laat beantwoorde emails, zou de herziening deze week gebeuren.
I will not trust politicians, energy companies and proximus. Sorry about that.
Why do you think this is suspicious? It’s still pretty expensive even after the 50% discount. They’re proposing that you pay them 55 euros per year extra to lock in your prices (technically even very slightly higher prices) for a year.
I don’t get why people here are pretending this offer is “too good to refuse” and that there must be a catch. It’s a very average offer. Might turn out good if prices increase again, might turn out bad. Take it or don’t take it depending on what you think prices will do.
We had bad experiences with Mega about the amount of provision to be paid and fees bills still sent even after having changed to another provider
Do not even consider mega, they fucked over a lot of people and will not hesitate to do it again.
The catch is that the vast tarief is very expensive to current variable prices. They make you think your variable costs 31cent, but it totally does not right now.
Example online flex:
MEGA online flex (new contract) uses this formula:
Belpex * 1,15 + 1,6 c€/kWh (+ 6% VAT/BTW)
They predict it’s gonna cost `35.37 c€/kWh`. So calculating the BELPEX they must have used is:
To go on, belpex prices are usually measured in €/MWh instead of c€/kWh. So the 27.62 is `276.24€/MWh`
Then look at this graph to see the history of belpex: [https://imgur.com/UCSX4yt](https://imgur.com/UCSX4yt) Only once last year in the July-Aug-Sep period it was higher than 276. That was when Russia severely reduced gas supplies.
For past January 2023 the BELPEX has an average of 130.7. With the variable MEGA formula that results in
((13.7 * 1.15) + 1.6 ) * 1.06 = 18.3963 c€/kWh.
Of course MEGA would love you to take a VAST contract locked at 32 cent.
As far was I see it, they’ll actually charge you way more for electricity use during daytime (0.36 compared to 0.31)
The only discount is on their “vaste vergoeding”, which is a cost on top of the usage rates. But your “vaste vergoeding” is already a lot lower than theirs after discount, so I really don’t see the point.
I think you’ll end up paying more if you go for this.
They have steady tarrifs, during winter months electric prices are always going to be much higher. So this is how ur getting ripped off. Plus prices still need to come down more despite the time of year
Don’t use Mega or soon to be octa+.
They really suck. Almost had the deurwaarder at my door after they changed the final payment 3 times and I refused to pay another “final” payment. Real gangsters
I have the full flex hourly tarif of engie. It’s is for me the most honest system, you know how much every hour of the day costs and if you can manage your usage you are better off with this type of formula. Charging the car at night really makes the difference for me.
Some days I only pay a couple of cents per kw for the energy component. 2-5 cents is no exception. But on the others side we have to avoid usage in peak hours 7-9 and 17-20u
The catch is stay the fk away from Mega. Dont you read the news?
Only reason that an energy company would hunt you down for a fixed contract is that they know prices are going to come down big time over the course of the year and they want to lock you into a higher bracket.
