So yes, my second time posting here about the so-called and self proclaimed “best internet provider in Cyprus”.I have posted here before saying how after a certain time our expected 60 mb/s connection plummeted down to less than 10 every single day, making most things we do impossible. After a couple of months of lies and back and forth with the franchise boss in Paphos, he admitted he was capping our connection.
That brings us to now. He uncapped us after that and it was better for a while, but now, yet again, it is absolutely horrific. Not only is the download dropping every single day to unbelievably low levels, the upload is now plummeting, the ping is reaching 1000 on and off and that same franchise boss in Paphos is still saying “it seems fine to me”.
Can’t play anything, can’t watch anything, the wireless totally cuts out and the chat on their website reads what you say then ignores you most of the time.
Do I just go straight to trading standards? It’s yet again weeks of getting absolutely no contact from them, no help or anything, just denial and ignorance.
Any help or advice would be hugely appreciated, thanks in advance.
Edit:
The ISP – Cosmos Wireless.
Paying for 60mb/s download speed and unlimited.
Edit 2:
Context for why I have to stay with these right now –
I live in an area that doesn’t have cables running up to the houses, so I only have a limited choice or wireless or satellite connection at the speeds I need for work etc.
I’ve tried 3 that can actually provide this since being here in Paphos – BlueNet, EcoTech and Cosmos.
Cosmos have been this bad and they’re still the “best” out of those 3, put it that way.
Not really the customer service, arguably the worst out of those 3, but the speeds I am MEANT to be getting anyway.
Well… change the ISP?
The best internet provider is Cyta. And it will run cables EVERYWHERE in the island. If you are further than 100m from their network though it will cost you. Your best bet is getting a 5g sim and run it as an access point, with the isp who get the best signal in your house, either Cyta or Epic.
You should give a 10 on the vote about referring CYTA to a friend
You should try to get Cyta 5G unlimited plan and e.g. a 5G Fritzbox. Should give you absolute minimum 50Mbit. Just be aware it’s still traffic capped at some time (usually not reachable with normal usage). 5G coverage should be nearly everywhere in RoC.
Alternative but not as reliable: Starlink from Elon Musk. I was able to order it for Cyprus a year ago or something. But I had no need for it.
If fiber isn’t available they should offer something similar, a WISP is always going to be bad, they’re just leapfrogging between antennas and ultimately losing strength at each step. Not to include somebody coughing near can wipe out your internet.
I used to have a WISP but found out it’s cheaper to pay for fibre given how uncompetitive WISP’s are.
Cyta are expanding daily (pretty sure the EU are paying the Cypriot government to get the infrastructure in place) and I’d take 30mb on a copper line than trust cosmos’s (notoriously shit) network.
