I’ve heard that it’s illegal to go on the russian side of the border at this spot. Is this true?

  1. It’s illegal to cross into russia from Norway unless it is at a regulated border crossing. In russia it is also illegal to be in the border area without the proper permits.

And it is illegal to cross from Norway into russia unless it is at a regulated border crossing.

The difference is that the russian border guards will arrest you and send you to a russian jail if you cross or are near the border, while the Norwegian ones will arrest you if you try to cross and give you a fine.

  2. Yes, if what you mean that’s illegal to cross the broader there. If you enter Russia legally, I guess you can go there from inside Russia.

  3. Yes, but only the same way it’s illegal to cross any other part of the border without using a border crossing.

  4. Like others points out, this is illegal and must absolutely not be done under any circumstances!

There’s only one open border-crossing between Norway (at Storskog) and the Murmansk region in Russia, and only between 8AM and 3PM Norwegian time, and only for crossing done by a vehicle/transport (with all needed travel documents). Nobody may cross the border on foot, which is prohibited also at the crossing point. There’s been cases where people have crossed the border illegally from Russia into Norway and that were caught, got arrested and the case being investigated. I’m not sure what actions that Russian police take if people cross the border illegally to enter Russia (and I guess that I don’t even want to know).

  5. There is a way. Conscript with the Norwegian or Finnish army and hope that you are placed on border protection. The again you have to hope that you are pulled to participate in the Friendship ski race from Royakovsky to the Three Border Point and back along the Norwegian/Russian border.. well, dont know if its a possibility now, but it was 13 years ago 🤣Evidence: https://ibb.co/qs8rJ4y

  6. Its illegal to cross the entire border except at Storskog border crossing. Although in the summer you may use the entire river even though you technically cross the border, just as long as you dont go on land

  7. Ok thanks for everyones answers and YES i know that it’s illegal to cross the border overall but i heard multiple people talk about specificaly Treriksrøysa.

  8. It’s not any MORE illegal at that spot than at any other spot. The Norwegian-Russian border in general is open to crossings only at dedicated border-crossing-spots, and depending on specifics also require the right paperwork.

  9. It is illegal to cross the border unless you do so at the Storskog border station. It is even illegal [to converse across the border](https://www.politiet.no/en/services/border-crossing/The-Norwegian-Russian-border/#aaEmZEkbN0C5rUlYHdQsGw).

There is an [annual pride pride parade in Kirkenes,](https://www.barentspride.no/no) the closest town to the border, so some Russians can cross into Norway and have a pride parade without risking getting their heads kicked in by right-far lunatics.

That’s not really related to anything, but I’m happy this parade exists.

  10. Trying to emigrate to Russia? The Russians will send you straight to fight in the Ukraine, Mr. Darwin. Enjoy your short but stupid life.

  11. I’d say it’s illegal to cross into Russia at any border. They take their territory seriously as shown by the needless war on a peaceful country. Some places like a small stretch of Estonian road require you to not stop while transiting through, but yes if I see a border marker saying Russian, I ain’t taking my chances.

  12. Crossing the Norway- Sweden border 😊

Crossing the Norway- Finland border 😊

Crossing the Norway – Russia border 🤬

  13. Former border guard here. I have fined people for as much as throwing snowballs into Russia.

If you dont educate yourself on the rules before visiting the border, chances are, you will break some rule without knowing it.

  14.
