Please keep to donating what is actually asked for, which is most of the time money. Yes, it feels more meaningful to go out and buy blankets and diapers and donate those, but that is most likely just creating a situation where there are piles of blankets nobody needs or diapers in the wrong size, while there is a crucial lack in female hygiene products, children sized shoes or band aids. Plus, it creates more work for the people on the ground trying to organize and distribute the donations.
The organizations and people on the ground know what is truly needed. Give them the funds to buy and organize what is needed when it is needed in the quantity that is needed. Help by providing what is asked for, not what makes you feel better.
