Irish person speaks Irish outside connemara, same shock 🤯
Seen this guy a few times before, his language skills are amazing, fair play to him
Brilliant! I’ve seen a couple of his videos and never expected to see him here, deadly!
Watched allot of his videos.. his language skills are ridiculous
Seen a few of this lads videos his ability to pick up languages is unbelievable, speaks them like natives so I’ve been told especially his Chinese
Maith an fear! And he’s learned a lot for such a short time period.
Love him!
The pronunciation is fairly bad in some cases, but he’s making a fair fist of the grammar. And he seems to be understanding questions asked (which is hard). Future tense used a few times (fairly correctly).
Very impressive effort for 3 weeks of learning!
I wish the language wasn’t dying out makes me sad at times
A guy from NY that speaks Irish and Chinese and its not Des Bishop…
This the same guy that would go to rural Pakistan speaking Urdu with shopkeepers there?
His videos are brilliant, surprised he found any Irish speakers tbh.
In fairness, he is great at learning a new language, but those sound effects on his videos are head wrecking.
Wholesome content
I’d say he had to spend a lot of time getting that footage compared to his videos in Asia 😂 I’d say he tried speaking Irish and a lot of people were looking at him and saying “sorry don’t understand you, think you’re speaking Irish, ah it’s cool that you can speak Irish I guess”
Alright this convinced me to start taking this seriously. Lost everything I learned in school. Any good resources to learn Irish properly? Or will I have to move west for a year?
If they were from my generation brought up to learn Peig off by heart to pass the pointless exams, we would find speaking Irish an act of aggression.
Irish is not widely spoken purely as a result of English oppression. Schools up to I guess the turn of this century made such a concerted effort to beat a love of the language into us that they pretty well stamped it out completely.
FYI these sorts of Language Learning Youtubers are primarily scammers. Don’t give them clicks. They learn the bare minimum of a language, pass it off to their English audience as being advanced and try to sell them their online language learning courses. They don’t touch it again beyond that. Usually making ridiculous claims like mastering Indonesian in 15 hours or gaining fluency in Spanish in only a couple of weeks.
There’s something uncomfortably invasive about a lot of their videos, going up to workers, recording them without asking and then posting their mild reactions online for clickbait that just doesn’t sit well with me.
