I have read that the cons of getting B197 driving license (i.e. getting license class B by taking practical exam with an automatic car + 10 hours of practical lessons with a manual car + 15 minutes driving in manual car) is that if I want to get other licenses in the future (class BE, C,etc.), then I will still be only able to drive with automatic gears except PkW.

Für alle genannten Klassen wird die Schlüsselzahl 78 eingetragen, sofern die Prüfungen mit einem Automatikfahrzeug abgelegt wurden. Although I think the odds that I will drive a LkW in the future is pretty low, I’m just curious to know, what I will have to do if I want to lift the restrictions in the future? Do I have to take the classes of license B (throetical+practical) all from scratch, simply with a manual car this time?

  1. For all non b classes you would also have to take driving lessons if you were allowed to drive a manual. You would keep your automatic only flag though.

    You could take some lessons to get your license unrestricted before taking the lesson for those other classes if you want to get rid of it
