Man, the sheer amount of bullshit people pull out of their asses in that comment section is astonishing.
The comment section is laughable or sad… I don’t know… So much BS.
90% of the people on here seem to only be here to virtue signal and im so fucking sick of it
I’m starting to think that a large swath of Reddit just resents and detests what successful and stable countries like Switzerland choose to do.
Its r/worldnews those people are braindead
This conflict really fried the people’s brains…
The current law has nothing to do with the status of neutrality. The Confoederatio Helvetica has been neutral since its foundation, but until a few years ago it supplied weapons and ammunition to all sides.
A particularly well-known example is the Oerlikon guns, a newer version of which is being discussed again today (Gepard). After the delivery of the British forces’ order was no longer possible following the encirclement of Switzerland in 1940, the blueprints were smuggled to England.
[Edit] I do understand the motives for which the arms export law was changed not so long ago. Unfortunately, they did not think it through to the end.
We should stay NEUTRAL. Absolutely and totally.
r/worldnews is pretty easy to understand…
**Headline: Switzerland doesn’t want to give arms to Ukraine**
*Those gold loving mountain nazis, just do this for the money!$$”!!*

“It’s a law that dates back centuries” does not shield you from criticism.
For example, the 2nd Amendment in the USA also forms a core part of their national identity and dates back hundreds of years. It is still controversial both domestically and abroad. Same for many of the anti-LGBT laws you find in the middle east.
I’ve noticed it quite a lot that Swiss people (and even more extremely this subreddit) have a knee-jerk reaction to whenever they’re criticised from abroad, usually along the lines of “it’s our tradition, it dates back centuries” along with “don’t interfere with our traditions and affairs” (usually China’s line lol). News flash: just cause it’s old doesn’t mean it’s good.
In this specific case I genuinely see both sides. I’m just criticising this attitude of defensiveness whenever someone points out that Switzerland has flaws like any other country.
It’s reddit they don’t know how to read, they don’t even know where Switzerland is.
I’ve given up with the reddit hive mind, and I’m not even Swiss…
You’re doing the right thing CH
I mean not even our politicians seem to know what neutrality means so… why should the media and reddit?
Instead of labelling the rest of the world “retards”…why don’t you realize you have a public image problem?
Switzerland is often seen as a country benefitting from the struggles of its neighbors…latest example was COVID: while you were partying and skiing in 2020 Germans Frenchs and Italians were shut at home.
If they would have been so “business friendly” during COVID as you, your infections numbers would have been much higher.
I remember a comment on a German newspaper about your open ski resorts…”the Swiss…they only care about money”. Can’t say they are completely wrong.
Suck it up losers!!! Switzerland 🇨🇭 is the best country in the 🤬 world 🌍 like it or not 😎🤣
Ticino forever!!!
Most people in switzerland know fuck all about our own history, I don‘t know why anybody expects a bunch of foreigners who take their news from reddit to know better.
I think they already have lost their neutrality. I don’t think they will regain it.
Une énorme erreur. Je ne supporte pas cette décision.
Lol

Could you explain? I don’t have that understanding as a person living in Poland but I would like to understand it better.
Let’s not forget that Switzerland can afford to be neutral only because surrounded by friendly countries
history will judge, not reddit
Tbh, a lot of people in this sub have no ideas what laws are in their country or internationally either.

Well what did you expect, people to actually read the details or just click bait the titles
World news really has a rage boner against Switzerland huh
Did you expect anything else from r/worldnews?
Is every country on this planet supposed to support Ukraine? This wasn’t the case with previous invasions and occupations (and current ones such as [Israel](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israeli_occupation_of_the_West_Bank)), so it makes me wonder!
