Im like 30 percent vegan now. Im ready to double that amount once vegan products improve in price, quality and diversity.
> 63% of the Swiss population now consciously avoid animal-based foods several times a month
I mean it’s a good development, but “several times a month” is just not very much… So the 63% is actually not super impressive.
That said, people should just learn to cook proper vegetarian/vegan meals instead of buying all these meat substitutes that taste like shit and cost the same or more than meat…
Btw if anyone wants to experience a wide variety of very tasty vegetarian or vegan food you should visit one of the https://tibits.ch restaurants. They have large buffets of only vegetarian and vegan meals and they are all super tasty
Everyone I know keeps telling me about how they “hardly eat meat any more” and “have reduced meat to the minimum” and “only meat from my village butcher so I know where the animaly were brought up” and “only Swiss quality meat, if at all”.
And then they continue to eat the 7.90CHF meat meal at the canteen every single day (“Herkunft: EU/Ungarn”) without even noticing.

I’d say I am eating 95% less meat than 10 years ago.
2-3x a year red meat, chicken maybe like 1x every 3 months or so.
Since the new plant-based stuff tastes pretty decent and in some cases is 99% like the real deal, that consists in those applications anyway of cheap meat or form-meat, my wife and me also realized how much we reduced meat lately. Not even as a conscious effort – just happened.
I made quite the opposite after discovering cuts like turkey breast or BBQ styles. They are quite affordable and fun to cook.
Now I eat 100-300g of meat per day. I feel better, more energised, more focussed.
I am down to once or twice a week, some weeks without entirely. The most “difficult” part is not reducing meat consumption, it’s morons taking offense about it.
And its called bullshit
Seems accurate. It doesn’t say by how much. For some people not getting McDonald’s anymore counts as reducing meat.
With the meat prices make sense
I only eat proteins from animals and vegetables… And try to avoid as much as possible industrial food. Everything swiss made…
Don’t care what people think. I’m never ever tired and have been sick 2-3 times max in 20 years…
Enjoy your supplements 😉
I still find it difficult to get enough protein on a calorie restricted diet without eating any lean meat.
Actively “trying” which means bull unless we see numbers. Like, most people are also trying to lose weight at any given time but everyone just keeps getting fatter, people will claim they take the plane less but the numbers don’t lie.
Wake me up when emissions decrease otherwise this is absolutely meaningless.
Another source argues that some meat consumption is reducing. Overall consumption keep climbing, which is sad both for the environment and the animal suffering.
I would suggest to anyone to keep a track each time they eat meat in a notebook or an application. This was eye-opening for me. You’ll be surprised to find out how many times you eat meat each day/week. Without this, it’s easy to forget and only remember the bigger meals.
I am too, with those prices … how can a chicken be 13 chf?!
The plant based stuff im still not convinced on. Some of it is really good in terms of replication but the adage that the less processed the food the better it is for you sort of plays on my decision to adopt it.
I definately am reducing my meat purchases. Food as a whole is too expensive but we have ready access to a lot of vegetables so with some adjustment, it’s pretty easy to make it work
Im not shure about this
I’m sure that I am not a part of that 63%. Good steak from real meat – it’s one of the best dishes.
Perfect, more for myself.
Don’t worry guys I’ll make up for that
what are the sales numbers sayin?
Because it is expensive as shit, that’s why. Tell me that CH is not a comunist state.
Swiss pork is the cheapest ever now because farmers overproduced since the border was close during covid, dig in people! The big cheap pieces are under 10 CHF/kg, the time to get the old granma recipe book is now 😂… I didn’t even know ham hock tastes so good fucking hell
I have to eat meat to essentially function … iron infusions don’t do enough. I used to be practically a vegetarian, but what can you do?
I am fortunate enough to make a decent income and I buy directly from a farm that I know raises their animals well.
Based on a LINK Umfrage with a bit over 2000 participants. Representative my ass LMAO.
I had a soya Schnitzel and was genuinely surprised how it tastes and felt like the real deal. But thats the absolute exception. Most quiona, beans, mushroom or any other burger patty substitutes taste like absolute ass and are dry af to me where I just cant eat them anymore withlut drowning it in sauce. No ty.
Though yes I dont eat a lot of meat. I buy like one salami that lasts me for 2-3 weeks and buy it again like once a month.
Oh man, for me it’s been the exact opposite, I have to stop eating anything that came from a plant and I could only eat meat and mushrooms for a good while. These damn plants where causing massive inflammation in my intestines to the point my other organs were getting crushed.
Now my diet has changed from meat once in a while to meat every day with maybe some broccoli or mushrooms and I feel so much better. Like from being in intolerable pain most of the day to much much less/to no pain.
So I will never go vegan or vegetarian because these plants are trying to kill me from the inside out.
I saw an ad that said meat in luxury but for me it is obligatory.
Beef is super expensive but I can get two pork chops from the butcher for 6-7CHF which is pretty good.
Vizh
No shit we’re reducing with the inflation. 2.8% inflation ? My ass on a stick, yeah.

I am reducing it, but not completely.

It seems that there is some decline in some types of meat in Switzerland (source: https://www.proviande.ch/fr/le-marche-de-la-viande-en-chiffres)

I found the report that the article failed to attach, it says 27% are eating substitutes.
Of course a site with the name “The vegan Herald” is biased.
Me too, not eating much meat anymore but when I do the price doesn‘t matter.
