He’s really going for the “you had less freedoms last year” outlook
Comes across so patronising. I guess it’s the primary school teacher in him.
Always feels like he’s talking down to you.
“We want to reopen slowly so that sectors don’t have to close again” lasted well
Till the 30th of January. What in the fuck…
The only way forward is to expand icu and hospital bed capacity. This virus is not going to die out
A lifetime of day drinking has prepared me for this. This is my moment.
Restrictions to last through next Summer so we can have a slow reopening and stay open. – Michael Martin 2027
Anyone want to get married for the sesh?
So a wedding exception means some places can stay open until 12? Some pub owner is bound to try host a few “weddings” soon
I can understand pubs closing earlier but what makes a football match played at 8pm more dangerous than a football match played at 3pm?
The ban on sporting events taking place after 8pm is bizarre
Poor cinemas 🙁
Do I still have a chance to watch NWH before they’re closing it down????
Edit: why do I feel like we’re going backwards and bringing back curfew? Tell me this is not curfew???
The worst part is that if omicron is as contagious as it supposedly is, these measures won’t even work. We’ll all have caught it by the end of January.
Going out Sunday at 2pm to prove a point
Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh
That is all.
What did he say about the takeaways
So I’m a full time mature student completely supporting myself through college. A restaurant job is the only kind of work that allows me to earn money and go to college. We only open at 3 where I work( due to staff shortage),so I doubt we are going to be opening at all now. So no job, and no mention of PUP or any financial assistance. I’m a student so I’m not eligible for unemployment. I have very little savings as what I’m making is just enough to keep my head above water.
I’m so tired. I’m currently sitting here trying to finish an assignment and also trying not to cry. I have such a ball of stress in my stomach that feels like a brick. I’m wondering if I need to start looking for a job with daytime hours, and let my college work suffer. It just feels like a huge middle finger from the government, like we’ve been left to fend for ourselves- a fucking week before Christmas. Sorry for the depressing post but I’m sure there’s many that are in my same exact position too.
8pm is bullshit but we all need to make an extra effort to support our local pubs and restaurants and get on the sauce as early as possible.
Someone called it the other day, saying that the NPHET advice was leaked for 5pm so the government can step in and say come on now, we got you an 8pm close, it could have been much worse…. (They said 9pm, but close enough)
Lads, I’ve tickets to a 7pm showing of The Matrix next week. Is that fucked now or would they reschedule/allow movies to finish after 8pm as long as they started well in advance of 8pm? Not sure if anything like this happened earlier in the pandemic. I steered clear of the cinemas and this was going to be the first time back in 2 years
Obligatory fuck FF/FG
Closing the cinemas at 8? What a load of bollix. I’ve got tickets for 7.15pm tomorrow. What’s going to happen? “Right you’ve seen the first 45 mins now get the fuck out”?
Are we going to keep imposing restrictions for every new variant? Getting to silly beggars time now. I understand the trepidation, but are we going to keep doing this interminably? Really tired of watching the blame game play out, the divisiveness, the sneaky way of putting manners on whole business sectors. It’s bullshit. We’ll be on our 10th booster and still doing this shit
Can someone explain what sort of logic is involved in putting an 8pm curfew on theatres?
Most shows start at 7.30. Venues are gonna most likely push that back to 5.30 starting time. So the same amount of people are going to the same show just at a different and more awkward time.
What’s the point?
Well I believe NPHET have given themselves an ultimatum tbh either:
A: They were right and omicron absolutely finishes us over the next few weeks.
B: They were wrong and it wasn’t as bad and now they aren’t forgiven for ruining business over the most profitable season.
Let’s see which one it is
Incredibly condescending… how about the government take some responsibility for the inability to increase icu beds as opposed to scapegoating everyone else!
What the fuck are we? Children that have to be in bed by 8? Load of bollocks if you ask me. I’ve done my part, wore my masks, got my vaccinations and followed previous restrictions. What more are we supposed to do?
I’m just sick to the teeth of it. I’m a bar manager. I love my job. We’re finally turning a profit after all the last lock downs and now I’m waiting for my boss to decide if he’s going to try make it work or close completely. Work is my escape from my shitty home life (don’t tell me to move out, I can’t at the moment) and I feel like I’m on the verge of a complete and utter mental breakdown. I have all my other staff messaging me constantly asking about work etc and I’m just ignoring them. Lucky we’re not too busy yet as I’m hiding in my bosses office with my 2nd whiskey and red. If we continue to open for 3 hours a day, my wages will cut massively. If we close, I can maybe get PUP. Most of my staff are students who can’t get it. I’m just… broken.
Tony will never again be comfortable in a bar or restaurant in Ireland.
You can go to the Cinema but not after 8, there is no logic to this.
I’m not in any way a conspiracy theorist.
But does anyone feel the “leak” was actually to get us to expect a worse outcome (5pm), so that when they “argued” and “fought” for the 8pm restrictions we were expected to be somewhat relieved and grateful?
Y’know, the old bait and switch.
If anyone can explain how cinemas closing earlier will help in the slightest with the spread of covid please do tell me.
Just as an example: Spider man is out this week. If you want to see spider man, you’re going to see spider man no matter what.
If a cinema could’ve shown it 8 times with regular hours, now they can only show it 4 times. All this stupid rule is going to do is cram all the people who were going to see it in 8 showings into 4 showings. This’ll hurt the situation more, not help.
