Hi everyone, my wife just received this in the mail, we did a bit of research and it seems that this article refers to some kind of modification ergo false license plates, of course we’re lawyering up and going to see why this may be happening.

I remember reading an article that mentioned the that plate numbers were being cloned, is this happening in Switzerland, what should we do?

Our plates are untouched, not scratched, the car is “new” 2020, no part can fall to cover the plates, the car has never been driven with the trunk open or any dumb frames (only the one from the dealership) and now, I have not entered our plates number in any website other than the Mercedes Me app.

Edit: I called the police as suggested, they informed me we have some taxes due, and the OCV had sent letters and reminders to our old address, they advices i go to the OCV to pay what’s pending.

I just left the OCV; my pending payment was CHF 813 (ouch) I paid them now and they told me everything is in order, I don’t have to go to the meeting set by the police, regardless, I will call them to check if everything is in order.

I also updated my address with them.

A few lessons learnt: 1 never trust what you’ve heard or been told, I was told CDL holders don’t pay taxes, 2 make sure every institution know your new address if you moved, 3 always keep a rainy day fund.

  1. It means your car registration was revoked and you were supposed to give the plates back.

    Is your car insured? Are you paying the vehicle tax?

  6. En général ce genre de procédure découle de la situation suivante :

    1. Un automobiliste ne paye plus son assurance rc véhicule obligatoire.
    2. L’assurance est obligée d’en informer le SAN
    3. Le SAN envoi à l’automobiliste un courrier l’enjoignant de déposer les plaques.
    4. Si le délai n’est pas respecté pour le dépôt de plaques, le SAN transmet le dossier à la police qui va venir saisir les plaques, non sans convoquer au préalable la personne.

    Manifestement OP n’est pas dans cette situation, mais il y a un élément d’erreur quelque part à clarifier avant que la situation s’envenime et génère des frais inutiles.

    My (Swiss) husband, who is excellent at Swiss admin, also forgot to update his address with the vehicle licensing authorities for many years as he stopped driving. When he purchased a new car in 2021 and went to collect his plates, he discovered he was still registered at his father’s address – so it is an easy mistake to make.

    Do you have diplomatic status, or just a CDL? I think there is the difference.
