Not surprising in the least – KPop is huge and many of the girls aged 18-22 are fans (source – two daughters in the house in the same age group). KPop emphasizes looks over almost everything.

I was in high school when I discovered kpop. I remember being in a complete shock because I didn’t know something that cute existed. As a young girl I was blown away. Men in pastel suits? Women in cute dresses? It was pretty cool. But I ended up liking jpop better because they did more fun things in their videos. (I also studied Japanese at the time)
As an adult, I like British punk much better than I like kpop. And British people in general. I’ve met a few gems while going to London for gigs.
What I can say is: I know a lot of people who absolutely love Korea and everything about it. It started getting popular in 2018 when I applied for a private school that teaches Korean in Oslo. But I still don’t get why South Korea has the most attractive men? Kpop is mostly makeup and interesting clothes.

I look 80% middle-east and 20% Latino (from people’s guesses)
So I walked around in a popular Bangkok party street, saw a young group wearing some good fashion go up some steep stairs with security halfway up. My cocky self wanted to go there because it looked exclusive. The guard was smiling as I passed him and entered a… 100% Korean club. No other nationalities present 👽
I felt the heavy side gaze of half the crowd. Some manager lady came up to me and said something subtle and polite I don’t remember, but it did not make me feel welcome.
Turns out Koreans are not very tolerant. Google Korea Racism lol. The wiki confirmed my suspicions after meeting a lot of Koreans in Thailand. Met nice people too, but you could see the reservation in their eyes, becoming markedly clear with ladies avoiding eye contact, unlike several Thai women who greet and flirt openly, also South of Thailand(excluding working girls obviously).

Maybe at some point in my teenage years I would find asian guys attractive but not anymore, personality and voice is my thing, and I prefer more masculine facial structures.
But I’m honestly not surprised considering kpop is getting more popular.

I’ve heard about some studies that suggest birth control is making women prefer increasingly feminine faces. I’ve never looked at the studies myself but it could explain why south korean men are so popular nowadays considering kpop stars are some of the most feminine looking men on the planet. But to be 100% honest I think its just cause kpop and south korea are so insanely popular nowadays, which is honestly worrying considering that below the extremely polished exterior south korea is a mess of alcoholism, gender inequality and homophobia.
