Those numbers are shocking lol, the theoretical exam is insanely easy compared to the practical
🤑
Coincidentally, I just took the theory-exam last week (yes, as an elder Millenial, yes, first time in Belgium, yes, I passed) and have to say: that stuff was harder than expected.
And I even spent around 10 to 12 hours actually studying the material, watching videos, doing practice tests. I now have an old fashion ‘schriftje’ with many pages of traffic signs, important things to remember, special rules etc. I even used highlighters so you know it’s real studying! 😉
As an ex-expat, I however also took the theory exam in Ireland about 8 years ago which I passed with a 38/40 after only 3 to 4 hours using their official app with practice questions.
What does it mean? Maybe I’m just better at understanding left-side driving? Maybe I got more stupid with age? Maybe Belgium’s system of deducting 5 points and making certain questions just that little bit dubious enough that it makes you doubt between answers isn’t all that great? *shrug*
Either way, for everyone who believes this is down to ‘youths’, I would urge you to google a practice test and see if you can still pass easily.
Edit: typo
Government makes the exams harder every 5 years and then gasp at the low success rate.
Too many people have a drivings license anyway.
“The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.” ― Socrates
Please stop fucking blaming “de jeugd van nu” there’s more going on then kids not putting in the effort.
Not that I can see the actual article because paywall and no one bothered to put the numbers in the comments, but getting a license shouldn’t be too easy. A car is a killing a machine in untrained/uneducated hands.
A few years ago i did my motorcycle examn. Just bought the booklet. Had to wait 45min somewhere, read it and went to go do the examn. Passed it.
Nothing hard about it. Was as simple as it was the first time at 18y.
Lol, probably ‘anxiety’ made them fail. Anyway cars will be too expensive for them. Certainly for those that can’t pass it.
The first time I didn’t pass I had one grave mistake and couple smaller ones.. I think I had 39/50 which sucks but I didn’t really study study the first time, the second time was a year later and I was super motivated, studied and read the book a lot, plus the website and fake exams helped too. Then I passed with 46/50. I found the practice exam to be easier for me, granted I did take 20hours of lessons and had a súper great teacher.
You know those signs you’ll probably never see in life ? (And are probably already in a museum somewhere). Well, the chance you’ll see them in exams is big!
Same for those obscure car specific questions that even mechanics would have a hard time
Good. Way to many people think they can drive already. Make sure they actually know the theory. You want to drive? study harder. you don’t want to do it 5 times? study harder. learning how to ride a car shouldn’t be a joke or even remotely easy. Too many people get into unnecessary accidents about rules they should have learned, and therefore avoided, during the theoretical part.
But on the other hand i do think they should make the study material/lessons free or at least more affordable for people who are less fortunate.
To be honest I did it last year and I thought it was rather easy.
Most people would probably fail these tests without studying all the details again. Some questions are very dubious or are about obscure stuff you never encounter and thus forget quickly.
IRL you just go along with the general trafic rules and use common sense.
What?
I never studied for it and booked an exam with lessons for 100€ (4h) with Theoriemeester and passed first try got 47/50
They make it harder-> less people pass-> people are surprised?
If you would put a couple of combi’s along the highway and pull over some random drivers for the theory exam, I bet you they would all fail. Even those driving for many years.
I didn’t study and got it in 2nd time, first time 1 mistake to much i’m Gen Z people are just gotten stupid
1. our government should provide a good website to learn the test so we don’t have to be dependent on a couple of badly made outdated websites
2. i remember the test having many ambiguous, weirdly formulated questions
( took it for both car license and motorcycle license, but it has been a while)
I did my theory test before and my practical after they changed the tests (i faild) the person taking my test told me i was super unlucky and if taken the practical test a month earlier i would have passed. That made me believe the practical test is also made harder ( at the time i found that a strange comment to make to someone who just faild)
On the drive back my instructor eleborated further on this comment, apparently the difference in “slaagpercentage” was too big between regions in flanders with some having “abnormally” high chances of succeeding. So they decided to make the test harder for everyone. I’d take this with a massive grain of salt tho.
He was pretty much implying some higher-ups weren’t happy with too many people getting their license and suspected some fraudulent or too easy going testcentra. No clue how fraud or being too easy going could be fixed by a harder test.
All in all they probably made the test harder for safety reasons.
I just took lessons, got 41 my first try becouse a really just dumb fault and 43 the second time. My advice, spend the money on lessons, don’t try and learn everything yourself.
tiktok generatie is gewoon dom.
Im gonna guess its because the way the word the questions lol. Half of them are “trick questions” of situations you would encounter extremely rarely, instead of questions about everyday driving.
I noticed this when I took my exam 9 years ago, and again when I took the one for A license couple months ago. While it’s not that hard to pass if you bother to learn the rules, there’s a lot of bullshit questions in the exam completely irrelevant to safety.
One question I remember was “which fuel is more polluting” and the options were fuel containing sulfur, red diesel, and I don’t know whatever other fuels I had never heard of in my life. Or shot like there’s a kid on a skateboard, is he a driver, pedestrian or cyclist? Like wtf do I care I’m going to be careful around him regardless. It’s not because he counts as a driver I’m going to run him over because he likely doesn’t know according to the rules he doesn’t have right of way.
Or a 12yo kid isn’t allowed on the sidewalk, who cares are you going to make him go on the street?
Also apparently road markings (haaientanden en stopstreep) have no meaning without a sign on the side of the road…
All that said, do believe everyone should retake a basic practical and theoretical (with actual relevant questions) test every x years because too many people forget how to drive properly and shouldn’t have a license. And/or a license with points.
So they can start charging for multiple practical exams sooner?
