Taoiseach calls for deportation of failed asylum seekers as EU toughens migration stance

  1. He really does forget who has been in power so long.

Ffs his own justice minister gave an amnesty to thousands last year.

  2. This is populism from Leo but not an unwelcome populism. I’d ask him why is it only now we discussing dealing with false asylum claims? We needed a housing crisis, far right marches in the streets and harassment of geniuene asylum seekers for FG to acknowledge it never mind deal with it?

  3. I’ll believe they actually want a fair but firm migration system when they don’t reverse their decision on someone who has no claim based on the fact that they can get a petition with a few thousand signatures or they go on hunger strike.

  4. This is something which should have been done years ago. Even now there will be an announcement like this and feck all done for months. Incompetence and a self defeating extremism of progressivism has brought it to this. They effectively created an open goal for the loons of the far right. End the problem with fake claims and gaming the system, end the perceived bias of FG constituencies not carrying their fair share and this issue is a nothing issue quickly. The Ukrainian situation will be with us for a while though.

  5. He is not being sincere, the government, the NGOs and the people that tell them what to do and likely concerned that the messages spread by various anti-immigration groups nationwide are starting to resonate with the large sections of the public. And eventually they may pose a credible opposition.

Varadkar is just saying these things to try and get some of the annoyed and disillusioned Fine Gael voters back onside.

    Absolutely nothing will change.
