Reported back in 2019 and he’s just being charged for it. Why would it take so long to press charges.
His nickname on the force was ‘The Other, Other Rapist’.
At this point it’s more surprising when Met police officers aren’t rapists.
As bad as it looks, at least the Met are actively investigating and sacking their own. I appreciate all this bad press will erode public confidence. At the end of the day, there are roughly the same number of GPs in the UK as there are police officers in the Met (between 40-50k). The Met had Couzens, the GPs had Shipman.
About 40 GPs a year are suspended from the medical register for misconduct (assuming it is proportional to their proportion in total doctors and currently similar to 2015 when the data comes from). To be suspended requires quite serious breaches. A majority of cases are related to dishonesty in professional life – cover-ups or lying to preserve employment, fraud, that kind of thing. The next most common issue is inappropriate relationships with patients. Then after that it is sexual issues in their own private lives.
The number of Met officers fired per year? Typically about 40-50, a very similar number.
There’s no one Met ‘toxic culture.’ From the reports we can see there are clearly groups of like minded toxic individuals but I reckon they are hiding in private WhatsApp groups until one of them gets in trouble and their phone is downloaded or someone in the group reports something and it is all discovered. If you were to seize a junior doctor’s phone or ambulance service, fire service, army, or even an office worker’s phone and download it I imagine the chances of finding something objectionable are probably about the same.
Imagine actually working for the met right now with such associations hanging over you. No wonder they are chronically short staffed. Grim toxic and dangerous culture.
Good they’re rooting them out. You don’t see this happening in the NHS.

When it comes to integrity The Met are actively monitoring their workforce’s WhatsApp/Social medias and kicking out [(or imprisoning)](https://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/metropolitan-police-officers-racist-offensive-messages-whatsapp-b1037066.html) those found to be abhorrent. Can we say the same for our workplaces?
