>The Crown Prosecution Servicein the United Kingdom has dropped charges against a pro-life activist arrested for praying silently outside an abortion clinic but has left the door open to additional prosecution for the same offense in the future.
Yes, ignoring a protection order should be an offence you can be charged for. This should not be a surprise.
I hope she does pursue it in court and they throw the book at her.
I wish these Sunday wreckers would fuck off and stay out of public life.
So she’s been warned to cut it out.
Christians don’t understand warnings.
Is god more likely to answer your prayer at a clinic than if you were in church or just by your bed. The only reason she was at a clinic was not for god, it was to intimidate users of that clinic. Fundies from any religion are dangerous loons.
Ive said it before when it comes to this sub.
Hundreds of thousands of people inconvenienced as well as emergency and essential services by ‘Just Stop Oil’ and the sub rejoices and bemoans attacks on peoples right to protest.
Woman protests by praying outside a clinic….the sub boos and hisses and decries that people should do such a thing.
It’s like a pantomime here at times. Most people only support the right to protest for causes they agree with.
I refuse to click on a link that says Christian news, but I see another comment that seems to indicate the woman wasn’t arrested for ‘silently praying’, but for violating a protection order.
Like I said, I’m going on comments because I’m not giving that site any traffic, but that’s a very important distinction to make.
It’s like someone taking out a restraining order against you, and you arguing that you’re ‘just praying quietly’ when the police ask why you’re outside their house.
Good, being prosecuted for praying in your head as a protest is dystopian. Ignoring the wider debate of whether protesting outside of an abortion clinic is wrong because the law has been set on that, this is not what I imagined it would criminalise and that’s why I didn’t support it.
*Note: Has to be said sadly on this sub, I’m pro choice, atheist and generally believe it should be unlawful to protest in certain ways within a short distance of an abortion clinic, just think this law is too broad*
The religious nutjobs are clearly vile human being but being arrested for silently praying is a bit much. Ban protests around abortion providers and tell these lot to keep their nonsense to themselves.
At least they’re now a minority, which is something to be thankful for.
Praying before her meal ? Right wing Christian’s are sick
Matthew 6:5 obviously not her favourite bit of the bible then
Not this again.
To be very clear, she was not arrested for silently praying. This post is misleading.
She was arrested and charged with four counts of failing to comply with a Public Space Protection Order.
There is no crime of ‘silent praying’ which you can be arrested for.
Sub as always proving most people only support the right to protest for causes they agree with.
