  1. >A limit of 10,000 pounds would mean that three quarters of people could receive their pay in digital pounds

As opposed to the sack of gold coins I get now??

They’re going to have to sell the idea better than this.

  2. I have no clues why we even *need* such a thing? Employers already pay “electronically” through the bank system and money is money.

  3. I don’t understand the difference between this money and what my bank already has.

Does my bank have a requirement to match every pound in its accounts with a real pound? If yes, fine. If no, what’s the difference between what we have now and a “digital” version? It’s all 1’s and 0’s in a spreadsheet.

  4. “oh fuck we ran out of other peoples money so hard that we need to invent a new currency to deal with it”.

  5. Sorry, I cannot pay you the 400 digital pounds I owe you.

I can only pay you 280 dig-598 digital po-175 digital pounds.

How much is 175 digital pounds? Oh, it’s 1400 real pounds, oh sorry no it’s 2681 real pounds, oh no that doesn’t matter anyway because now I have 3912 digital pounds and 20 cyberpence.

Let’s not become a crypto country, please. I don’t want to get paid in a currency about as stable as John Darwin’s canoe.

  6. Q: What’s the difference between a ‘conspiracy theory’ and the truth ?

    A: About 3 months.

  7. Not that long ago people were called conspiracy theorists by saying that this is coming.

Now it’s just £20k, tomorrow there will be no cash and everyone’s money (except the rich) will be controlled by WEF.

Our central bank is not independent and is infiltrated by WEF members who are working on enslaving us.

If you can’t hold cash you are no longer free.

Right, I lay my cards out on the table here and I know people will disagree with me, I believe that cryptocurrency and blockchain are a big part of the future, I do believe that with web3 developments, self-custodial wallets will be required for digital ownership. I DO NOT agree with monkey pictures and JPEGs, I do agree with using the blockchain to cut down on fraud and stop us from all living in a rent/stream world without owning anything.

But what the ever loving fuck is this senile old man talking about? a wallet full of internet cash to buy things on amazon? I am genuinely hoping that it is a mis-quote.

  9. I don’t understand how this is different from the digital pounds in the wallet called a bank account I don’t think any of us believe someone moves physical money as I spend it in shops, on the tube or any other transaction apart from using an atm once in a blue moon

  10. A centralized digital coin is in no way different to a balance book, which is already how our fiat money works.

What a fucking waste of time

  11. I’m sorry my fellow citizen… you’ve bought too much petrol/meat/dairy this month. I’m going to have to refuse your purchase.

  12. Funny, it’s kind of as if certain people who’ve been painted as mad conspiracy theorists have been warning us about this for decades 🤔

  13. This is dangerous and we should absolutely boycott using this surveillance coin. They can piss off. Even my money won’t be my money, guess I’ll “own nothing and be happy”. Like a good little slave…

They’ll want social credit scores next…

  14. This post is just above the post about record BP profits. What juxtaposition! Screw the poor until they bleed, but let corporate greed run wild

  15. >At the other end, you could say I need a little wallet full of internet cash to buy things on Amazon,” Cunliffe added.

    Fuck off, just fuck off.

  16. Spending caps are only scratching the surface of potential government abuses of cbdcs. These cbdcs will be used in unsavoury ways to the detriment of the public, almost overwhelmingly.

It was conspiracy when the bitcoiners were saying this was going to happen, for years. The lid has barely been lifted and immediately we’re getting wind of throttling control over people’s spending or saving habits.

  17. Silly question, but if you can only have 20,000 in your account then how are you meant to save for a house?
