Satellite map of Europe at night

  1. I don’t even live in any of the big spots of continuous light, and yet the closet truly dark sky is either 500 km east on the Slovakian-Ukrainian border, on in the middle of the Baltic sea.

A road trip to the former has been on my bucket list for three years now. This year will be the first in which it is possible.

  2. Looks like you can see the snow atop mountains in the north. Something similar looking is happening down south though. What is it really? Clouds?

  3. You can see the border between Baltics, Poland and Romania vs. Belarus and Ukraine.

It nicely shows the refions: Western Europe lit af, Central Euroe still mostly lit, Eastern Europe only large towns.
