Shows how Malta was always connected to North Africa. It is probably in the last 50 years that the Maltese really started to cut ties, especially after Gaddafi and the civil war of 2011 in Libya.
Well after independence some people, mainly labour dug in deep to try to find something that was Maltese. Giving their demographic and political leaning all they found was vulgarity and retards.
But for better or for worse they forged an identity from that, rejecting most of what is decent and a normal country would be proud off. The Malta of today is the result of the fuck up and with labour back in power they continue digging their way down to hell.
The brain drain does not help either. I find these studies tedious and pointless. Maltese obsession with those who got away and want nothing to do with the place is epic. Do other countries show this same obsession?
The idea that there is any continuity in Malta is totally bizarre. This is a country that was barely populated for most of its history. And there are huge gaps in its history. Assumptions make up for any real history.
So most of the assumed history is really some invention that fits someone’s agenda. The actual history we have access to is lying decaying and abandoned or buried under concrete. Case in point the vast archives of the knights.
And more case in point, the only part of the knights history, the current government tried to revive was a glorification of a piratical history. It’s was not piracy but a struggle for survival between two civilizations. But labour likes to cast this as a glorious piratical past, which conveniently fits the Malta of today, a pirate state.
The other part they sought to revive was the glorious prostitution past, again because businessmen close to the party are working hard to bring In prostitution tourism. Same people passing off envelopes with cash to ‘escort’in parliament!
Love seeing a little piece of our island in other countries. So little yet somehow still with impact, even if small.
Most surnames in North Africa are of Arabs and Berbers that were living who were later expelled. To call them Maltese is debatable as many view the Muslim period as an occupation and remember the expulsion of the Arabs/Turks with great pride.
