I arrived in Germany about a few days ago. I bought an o2 sim card ([photo\_link](https://imgur.com/a/IhOlPK7)). I believed it would be something like 3.5 GB for 4 weeks (as it says on the pack). But every time I turn on the mobile data, I get an sms saying that the charge for me is 99 cents per day ([screenshot\_link](https://imgur.com/a/IhOlPK7)). I know I haven’t exhausted 3.5 GB because I rarely open mobile data and that too for not more than a minute.

Can someone help me if there is any other extra step that I need to do? I purchased this sim not from an o2 store but from a dm store. So the o2 store denies service to me. I got this sim for temporary purposes and plan to switch to a new network provider after I exhaust this one (if it works). If it doesn’t, I will buy a new one asap.

I have spent more than 4-5 days getting this sim activated. Having the worst experience with o2 ever since I got the sim.

  1. You need to activate the card, then the starting ammount of 10,00 Euro will be placed on the card and a few minutes later the plan wlll be charged. The ammount of 0,01 Euro will remain on the card.

If anything happens (call, text, internet use whatever) between activation and charging for the plan, your money on the card is not longer enough for the plan and you will need to put money on the card and wait until the plan was charged. Until then you will get the “standard plan” for all cards and not the one on the cover.

  2. You can switch to another provider but would have the same basic problems with getting started.

What you bought is the SIM for 9.99 EUR that comes with a 10 EUR voucher for the plan O2 my Prepaid S.

Nothing is activated or registered. With a prepaid SIM you need to both register and activate the card. This is not a unique O2 procedure, this goes for all prepaid cards from all providers.

What you need to do now:

    1. Activate and register the SIM:

    https://sim-aktivieren.o2online.de/

You need a passport or similar do do the ident procedure.

I suggest downloading the O2 app https://www.o2online.de/vorteile/apps-zusatzdienste/mein-o2-app/ to manage your prepaid plans, top up the card, check the usage etc. With O2 my Prepaid S you can get another free 500MB per month via the app.

But you need to select the O2 my Prepaid S first (with the 10 EUR Startguthaben), so you do not get stuck in the basic tariff.

  3. On the front below “O2 my Prepaid S” it says that the card only contains the base tariff, which is what you’ve seen on the website.

During registration, you were able to select which option you wanted.

Unfortunately, at this point, the chances of you getting your money back are very slim.
