The European Union at its largest possible extent

  1. At which point would Russia join the EU?

Even after Putin is taken down or he succumbed to cancer, Russia has more rebuilding to do than we can imagine.

It all depends on who gets to control Russia after that, how the populace works together. All the brainwashed people surely aren’t convinced so easily.

Russia would join 20-30 years after all that fiasco, if the EU exists till then and Russia stays on the western path.

  2. Technically the whole universe is the max extension since inside the EU there is not a definition of what Europe territory is.

  3. I mean, if you have Russia, throw in Canada, USA, New Zealand, Australia, maybe Mexico and South America. Heck we can toss in China and maybe Africa considering Europe colonization did so much damage.

TBH, I am for a United Democratic Earth

  4. I think EU or rather European Economic Area* and NAFTA merge is more possible, than Russian accession.

*EU + EFTA free trade agreement, that has also an separate agreement with Switzerland, because Swiss love to complicate things 😉

  5. Whilst maintaining the name, and that name remaining credible, you mean?

Theoretically the limit is the size of the world. And it would be nice to think that, maybe in a few hundred years, the world will get there.

  6. Hell will freeze before Russia joins the EU. America or Canada joining is more likely than Russia joining, and that’s not gonna happen.

Not even mentioning Azerbaijan and Armenia both joining. Or Serbia and Kosovo. Or Greece letting Turkey in.

And Switzerland and Norway have no reason to join. Like, they literally can join at any moment with no issue, but they just don’t want to. Their citizens are like 70%-80% against joining. They have absolutely no reason to join, they already have deep ties to the EU anyway.

Hell, if we are going this far why not include Morocco? They actually tried joining, and they still show some interest in becoming part of the EU. They are way more likely to join than Russia.

  7. if you count territory that belongs to a european nation, then there is no largest possible. A country could simply take over the rest of the world and it would become part of the largest possible extent.

This is a map of the largest possible extent of the EU at this moment.

  8. If Russia was smarter and played their cards right, they could have been extended EU Membership. Now this may have to wait a decade or more before it becomes possible. Certainly a new ruling regime that proves itself would be necessary before Russia be admitted.

  9. Truthfully I think we should extend at least EEA membership to Aus, NZ, Canada if they want it. They’re basically European countries that aren’t in Europe.

  10. TIL that French Guiana is still part of France and is in the EU. I always though it was an independent country like the rest of the Americas.
