Definitely one of negative effects of the massive boom in True Crime has been the influx of “Experts” and everyone who listens to a podcast suddenly thinking they’re entitled to speculate and “solve” someone’s tragedy for kicks.
You know they will though. Just look at the paedophile vigilante groups that are across social media for example, they interfere in police investigations and entrap people because they feel the police do not do enough. You will see the same here as people think they are Miss Marple/Hercule Poirot and can solve this better than the police can. Everyone seems to think they are a great detective when the truth is that they are a true crime fan who needs a hobby.
The people obsessed with true crime are fucking weird.
Don’t get me wrong I enjoy a decent documentary on true crime sometimes, but I don’t then after watching go on and think I’m some kinda super detective that has everything solved and spread my amateur and entierly wrong opinion everywhere to other nutters.
I’m sick of “experts” saying people should avoid rogue jurisprudence. I’m sure Kev from Burnley could sort this out like the Punisher.
Some of the armchair detectives have made me feel sick. Let the police do their job and hopefully, Nicola can be found. Can’t imagine the pain her whole family must be going through, the last thing they need is idiots making stupid claims.
Why would people take the law into their own hands I don’t even understand why they would say that .
Some of the speculation this case has attracted has been vile. If someone goes missing near a body of water the most logical conclusion is they’re in there. I live near a river that people frequently jump into and it can take weeks or months for them to be found.
Don’t go to the subreddit.
It’s just disappointing that people are like this.
Everyone puts their phone on the ground before retrieving ball from water ….. this is plausible
People should take the law into their own hands regarding BP and Shell record profits, but not this.
I’m sorry to say but a life time of living with my fellow Brits has taught me that there’s some real idiots out there! I wish I could say that it’s a surprise that the police had to say this, but it really isn’t. For some, anything can be an excuse to cause trouble.
“Sub-Reddit urges people to take the law into their hand.”
Should we just not call this what it is?
People aren’t doing this because they fancy themselves as a detective. Over the last decade or so, people have been taking the law into their own hands because they do not believe the police will do anything.
Too many people watched Happy Valley and think they’re detectives.
Check the fooking narrow boats!!!
Just wondering…..how many (of recruitable age) of the “the Police are shit” brigade would actually put themselves forward and join. Good pay and prospects.
No…..didn’t think so
>“We would ask that people in the wider community, particularly on social media and online, do not speculate as to what may have happened to Nicola.”
Don’t speculate about what happened to the woman who mysteriously disappeared in unexplained circumstances.
lol, good luck with that
I think what is triggering people is that they said right from the start it is not suspicious, and it was a tragic accident of a mother drowning in the river. So they did not block off area and focused mainly on that theory as being fact.
The river has been searched twice and no body to be found. It is looking increasingly unlikely that she is in the river so understandably people are questioning why the police were so sure of this from the beginning.
Hope we find her really do but the whole thing is a bit of mystery tye phone the dog feel like the phone was left 4 a reason to
Would this situation have made beyond Blackpool Gazette, LEP and Lancs Live if not for our pal with his new book out who has completely immersed himself then fucked off by the time everyone has heard of his name?
We’re all entitled to our opinions but writing them online isn’t helpful..

There’s armchair detectives all over this case
A team of 40 actual detectives currently pursuing 500 lines of enquiry but Hannah, 24 from Sunderland, thinks they should look at CCTV around the area
Would’ve helped if the police even bothered to tape off the area.
It’s fascinating to me that this case is getting so much publicity compared to one that happened in my area just over a year ago. [Poor Nic Degraff didn’t get this level of interest but also disappeared into a river whilst out with a dog](https://www.newsandstar.co.uk/news/23109843.inquest-held-tragic-death-nic-degraff-workington/).
