Road trip from Odda to Olso: what to visit by the way?

  1. I’ll visit some waterfall near odda, and churchs in Rølda, Vinje and Heddal. What else should I stop by to see?

  2. Depends on how much time you have, you will pass “Haukeli Seter” with some great hiking trails in that area. Other than that, the scenery along the road itself is pretty fantastic so just sit back and enjoy the ride.

  3. Rjukan, heavy water museum, gaustatoppen (there is a train inside the mountain to the top (1887 m) there is also a mountain mirror guiding the sun down in the valley(not working atm) and a cabel car going up to the mountain and the sun. Loads of history, it was the most modern City in 1912 ish. Worth a trip!

  4. Also check vegvesen.no for traffic alerts before you go. And it’s good to keep some fresh water, a small shovel, and blankets in the car, just in case.

  5. At Seljord lake, there is a monocular that you can put money on, and have a look for Seljordsormen, the norwegian equivalent of Nessie in Loch Ness.

  6. I live in Odda. I would recommend the “stavkirka” in Røldal. It’s a really old church made in a special way. Google stave church. And since you’re driving on a Sunday it’s not a lot of thing that are open. But the exterior is the impressive thing about it.
And you’ll have a 50min left before you arrive in Odda.

But not many other things to do on a Sunday on that route. Maybe som nice views along the way.

  7. If you use “NAF Reiseplanlegger” (trip planner) then you can type where you’re starting and ending the trip and it will tell you pretty much everything close by.

Just hit the green button that says “Se og gjøre langs ruten”. From there you can filter what you want to see, everything from gass stations to memorials to museums and family activities.

Hope you have a nice trip despite the weather 🙂

  8. If it is not too soon to stop, the park around Vestfossen is pretty beautiful. But it really is more of a summer thing.

  9. Although I see others might disagree I have found that route to be very nice. Things I would recommend to see along the way are firstly Seljord, take the old road through Flatdal not the tunnel for one of Norways most breathtaking views.
Eidsborg is cool, there is a short route you can walk to a very cool historical quarry there.
The road to Eidsborg leads to Dalen, which is a very beautiful Valley with a huge very old very beautiful hotell.
Eidsborg and Dalen are detours but worth it.
Somewhere in the final stretch there is also a memorial for a battle that was fought in ww2 which is quite interesting and has a short road you can walk. The view there is awesome.

  10. The e134 mountain crossing is open, but may close on short notice. 16-20 m/sec winds on the forecast for Sunday. The rv7 is closed. Third option is to drive Voss-Lærdal-rv52, that is a long route. Bring food, warm clothes and a full tank of fuel, you could be in for a long wait in an unplesant environment.

There are no nice things to see on that route anyway. Maybe the town of Kongsberg.

  11. Take a stop at Eidsborg, they have a beautiful stave church, and if you like skiing Rauland is the place to be. Seljord is ok, I work there, but it’s not a place I’d spend a lot of time on. The roads are very slippery right now, be careful!

  12. Drive down towards Kristiansand or towards Stavager and from there to Oslo, but it will definitely take longer time.
