  1. >The 48-year-old was sentenced to life and must serve a minimum term of 32 years minus the time he has spent in custody before he can even be considered for release.

Arguably should have been life without parole. Although I do understand why they’re not likely to do that for Rape.

  2. It doesn’t really seem long enough but I suppose it could be for the rest of his life or at least most of it.

  3. I’m not familiar with the story but I have to admire the courage of those women who overcame their fear and took their story to the police not knowing how their case would be received. That must have been terrifying for some.

  4. Last month we learned about David Carrick, a senior MET officer that admitted to raping multiple women over the course of 2 decades. Allegations and warnings were made against him for years, but it was covered up by the police.^[[1]](https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/jan/16/metropolitan-police-officer-david-carrick-revealed-as-serial-rapist)

    >An elite Metropolitan police officer waged a campaign of terror and humiliation against women for two decades, committing 48 rapes to become one of the worst sex offenders in modern history.

    >The force ignored eight warnings about PC David Carrick’s abusive behaviour, leading Downing Street to warn faith in the police had been “shattered” and the force’s new commissioner to say the leadership “should have been more determined to root out such a misogynist”.

An independent government report found systemic failures with UK law enforcement agencies when dealing with domestic and sexual abuse.^[[2]](https://www.theguardian.com/society/2022/dec/15/scathing-report-condemns-uk-police-for-victim-blaming-in-cases)

    >A damning official examination into how police forces tackle rape has exposed persistent failings in the criminal justice system, including a failure to track repeat suspects, “explicit victim-blaming” and botched investigations.

The UK police has had major issues with their officers engaging in violence against women in recent years. Two years ago, there was a high profile case of an officer kidnapping, raping, and murdering a woman.^[[3]](https://www.reuters.com/world/uk/uk-police-officer-who-murdered-woman-charged-with-further-sex-crimes-2022-08-19/) We later learned that he was part of a WhatsApp group chat with other officers who discussed using tasers on children and animals, grooming young girls, and sexually abusing women.^[[4]](https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/uk/six-police-officers-lose-jobs-for-being-part-of-offensive-whatsapp-group/42208860.html)

Furthermore, a former high ranking MET officer has recently discussed how she was bullied out of her role as Chief Superintendent, that there is a culture of misogyny that protects predators on the force.^[[3]](https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/london-metropolitan-police-culture-1.6737016)

    >Like others here, Sandhu believes a culture of misogyny at the Met has been allowed to grow, helping to shield sexual predators on the force.

    >”It’s not one bad apple, it’s not a couple of bad apples. There are numerous officers and they need to be taken care of. The system just needs to be cleansed.”

    >Sandhu spent 30 years with the Met police, but says she was still bullied out.

    >Misogynistic talk was dismissed as banter or locker-room talk and women police officers who complained, she said, would find themselves shut out, left on their own when they called for back-up or suddenly the target of counter complaints.

  5. Will other arrests be made? The individuals who knew enough about his reputation for example to even give him nicknames about it, are all complicit.

  6. This issue is the women, including a police officer didn’t come forword beacuse he told them they wouldn’t be heard, the police would side with him.

it was cousins arrest which made the victims report this scumbag.

  7. No Buddhists in this thread complaining that the sentence is too lenient?

“What about when he’s reincarnated? He’s getting away with it. Where’s the justice?”
