Did four bags of litter picking in Galway city the other day. Been going at a certain area for a few weeks now, would love to organise clean up events. Does anyone have any idea how to manage that?

No idea, but fair play to you.

All the resources you might need are here including ways to organise, they send out litter pickers, hi-vis vests, recycling and general waste bags
Fair play to you, it’s the best time of year to do it too, before the vegetation starts covering it all up for another year

Edited to add: You might also get in touch with galwaycico about the rubbish you collect [https://www.galwaycity.ie/community-cleanup](https://www.galwaycity.ie/community-cleanup)

I would err on the side of caution in terms of liability, advertise a community volunteer litter picking day, but don’t take on the responsibility of being the ‘organiser’ as such
If you included, when advertising/spreading the word, a pick up location for the materials, or told people how to arrange for getting their own packs from an taisce, you wouldn’t have to worry about public liability nonsense, in case the city council raise any issues around that (they have done so before out of an abundance of caution)
Great work, but is there any special training involved, or do you just pick it up as you go along..?
[https://www.volunteer.ie/](https://www.volunteer.ie/find-a-volunteer-role/) has adverts for cleaning events in Dublin. I imagine they could help. I want to join in once I secure housing. And to volunteer with tree planting. 🙂
Fair play… is there a tidy towns that might help out, transition year students do a bit too…
*That’s a lot of cans, a high “tin” area as we call it*
During lockdown I did this myself every morning on my local green area. I got the bags from the Council. It was more of an excuse to get me out of the house for 30 mins.
I gave up after a week because I got sick of seeing people dropping their rubbish while I was still cleaning, families having little picknics and walking off leaving their coffee cups and sweet wrappers etc. I expect it from kids, but seeing adults doing it was irritating. So I stopped before I had a Karen moment 🙂
That’s a really good thing you have done there OP. Good luck with your cleanup events.
I would suggest to set up a local Tidy Towns if none exists yet in your area. I’ve joined my local one in Meath and we’re out every Saturday or sometimes in between.
More info at http://www.tidytowns.ie.

Somebody there might be willing to talk to you about your idea and potential options.
Just go with Facebook. Carlow has a litter pick up group going the last year or so. They pick up litter every Saturday morning usually
I’d join in on a Saturday for sure, moreso as weather is picking up a bit now!
Fair play lad!!!
Most towns / city have a tidy towns program were they have active days out cleaning up. Try find your local one and see what the craic is.
You’re an absolute gem 💎
Good work. Keep it up.
Make sure you get your hepatitis jabs and steel sole boots. Guessing your getting the council to supply litter pickers (grant application is currently open for bags/pickers)
Great stuff. Fair play to you
Just announce locally and pick a fixed day every month.. Make it easy, first sunday or something. And just go so it. As more people turn up ask for support from council…They might provide bags and agree to send the truck 1st thing monday morning.. Alternative maybe someone with a van might do the collection and agree he gets free entry at local recycling centre.
Moat important, you are inspirational in just doing it, those interested will follow
Galway City Council will give you bags and gloves. Email your local councillor for their support. Are you East, West or City Center?
Youre one of the good ones Bisto. Fair play
