Tallaght is housing 17% of Irelands (22.3% of Dublins) asylum seekers

  1. The government are literally begging for places to put asylum seekers, I don’t think they personally give a fuck whether that is in D4 or D24. They’ll take anywhere they can get which in this case often happens to be in D24.

  2. This is an important part to remember when anti-immigrant protests kick off. Disregarding the reliability of this data, its common sense that the state won’t pay for asylum seekers to live in affluent areas with already inflated property prices. So poorer communities are disproportionately bearing the brunt of this influx of immigrants. From my personal experience I’ve not met a single Ukrainian since we started taking refugees, which probably says a lot about the area I live, but it doesn’t seem fair to me and says a lot about the way property is used to segregate and control where people of different classes can live.

  3. A better number would what is immigrant population as a per of the population in the area ?

I live in a semi rural area. There are Approx 200 local resident and 45 Ukrainian refugees. No problems here. Everyone is nice civil. Helping.

  4. It’s Citywest not Tallaght and it’s one large hotel where people are temporarily held until other accommodation across Ireland is found.

  5. Need a source. I’d also imagine theres not a lot of spots to place asylum seekers in some areas and depends on what hotels want to take them in.
