Danish shipping gigant Maersk paid only 0.27% in taxes in 2022. Maersk had a profit of € 27 billion in 2022.

  1. Why can’t countries just like.. Evict companies? Like either you pay or all your possesions are belong to us.

    (I mean the answer is obviously corruption and lobbying, it was a rethorical question sorta)

  2. Total Maersk activity In Denmark is practically zero. So the headline is meant to be sensationalist. Danish based companies pay taxes on activities in Denmark. Not on activities overseas. If Danish taxpayers wants a higher share of that money, then start investing billions in Port facilities.
    Maersk is not cheating Danes from corporate taxation. It is (maybe) cheating other countries.

  3. The real story is that the government let Maersk know that they were going to tax them substantially. Maersk responded that they would leave. The government asked for forgiveness for their mistake. Maersk is a big enough chunk of the economy to dictate terms.
