I’m getting strong 1984 vibes in this story: old lady is rescuing a fallen baby bird in her garden and because of this she is fined 500CHF and the baby bird is taken and killed – what do you think?

Bureaucracy at it’s best
She should call the game warden in the first instance and not “help” taking the bird. If you are not qualified for something leave it to a professional. Wild animals are not household pets.
What a bunch of BS (from the authorities). This isn’t some “wild animal” but a baby bird. This is where breaking the law is 100% morally acceptable.
Don’t the authorities have more pressing matters to attend to?
I wonder if the fine covers the bureaucratic costs. It’s so dumb that it becomes funny again.
You didn’t read 1984 did you?
Rather than 1984, I would describe it as kafkaesque in a way that only exists in Switzerland.
Sure, the old lady maybe should have done it differently but to think that the authorities would even consider getting involved given the current very real challenges we are facing, not sure if it’s funny or if I should cry over my wasted tax money.
TL;DR
>A woman in Castrisch, Switzerland discovered a baby magpie in her garden in August 2022 and, believing it was “too young to fly” and concerned about neighborhood cats, she decided to care for it and built a aviary. Two weeks later, a game warden came to her door after receiving a complaint and asked for her permission to keep the bird, which she didn’t have. He took the bird away and later, in January 2023, the woman received a letter requesting her to pay a fine of 200 francs and additional fees of 315.50 francs for holding the animal without permission. Hannes Jenny, the deputy head of the Office of Hunting in Grisons, explains that capturing and holding wild animals without permission is not allowed and young birds should be left in the wild or given to a specialist if injured. Unfortunately, Röbali the magpie became too used to humans and had to be euthanized after being examined by a bird care facility.
The key ingredient is that someone complained about it
I understand that this seems very petty, but please stay away from wild animals.
There is a law
Who knew about it ? her friends.
She has some terrible sadistic friends. . .
others have already said it but I want to repeat to make sure OP really reads it: what on Earth does this have to do with 1984?
a classic dilemma of lawful versus moral.
is 1984 in the room with us?
This makes me so sad, I really hate people sometimes.
Fuck whoever “complained” – I hope the bird of life shits on your birthday cake.
Most birds that “fall from the nest” are meant to… they need to learn how to fly somehow. This sounds like a typical case of a woman who knows nothing about birds, saw a JUVENILE (not a baby) on the ground and thought “Oh fuck that’s a baby, it can’t do anything for itself.”
Furthermore, unless this lady is a vet or trained wildlife rehabilitator, what the fuck is she doing scooping up wild animals? She has no idea the care or food they need and is just fucking up nature’s course.
what does that have to do with 1984?
Bruh
This can only happen in Switzerland
