The complete failure of care for people with complex mental health in this country now, is appalling.
The waiting list for CAHMS, the service for children’s mental heath has a waiting list of over a year in my area.
> Becky has been alone in a locked hospital room since 27 January. The room has no window or access to the outdoors, no furniture except for a bed, and she is permitted no belongings. All human contact is conducted through a hatch.
WTF when was solitary isolation, the answer for suicidal illnesses.
Edit adding this to my main post because I am sick of getting amateur mental health experts not understanding that long term isolation (longer than 24 hours) is like you want her to kill her self. [The potential psychiatric consequences of prolonged solitary confinement are well recognized and include depression, anxiety and psychosis 1. Due to their developmental vulnerability, juvenile offenders are at particular risk of such adverse reactions 2. Furthermore, the majority of suicides in juvenile correctional facilities occur when the individual is isolated or in solitary confinement.](https://www.aacap.org/aacap/Policy_Statements/2012/Solitary_Confinement_of_Juvenile_Offenders.aspx)
Another case of a general hospital bed inappropriately being used to cover for gaps in another service. It’s absolutely appaling that a case like this isn’t being managed in a psychiatric bed, how bad is the service that untrained staff looking after the patient is better?
Just remember.
The hospital can’t respond to why these issues exist.
I had a patient who wasn’t allowed a clock. Insane right?
Until you realise the patient ate the last clock.
I have BPD and honestly the way the government has given mentally ill people little to no help is appalling. I nearly died like 5 times and was hopelessly addicted to drugs and I still never have gotten actual treatment.
Only got my diagnosis at the end of last year with zero follow up treatment apart from a useless group offered to deal with “anxiety and depression”.
I DO NOT HAVE anxiety or depression, I have BPD. But there is no support for that or other complex mental illnesses unfortunately. We’re not really seen as people.
We love to push “mental health matters!” until those people display psychotic symptoms.
Reading the article – I’m sorry, why the fuck is she not sectioned? Why is she detained without being under the MHA?
One of my biggest fears is not being able to kill myself.
Imagine life being so horrible that you want it to end.
Then imagine people taking away you ability to control your life and put you in even more suffering so all you can do it live in horror of the state you are in.
