A friend told me today, and I thought this was deffo food for thought: “I think we can all agree that, should he atone for his mistakes, he at least deserves a good chance at a normal life. But did he ever *want* a normal life?” After being Flanders’ sweetheart for so many years and all of that going away almost instantly, maybe that’s all he ever knew. Perhaps being normal is too much to bear.
Sad. I think it´s a consequence of how this all became a hot topic in media. This whole ´BV fixation´ is terrible.
Berecht worden in een gerechtelijke procedure is één ding. “Berecht” worden door de media die allen te samen als aasgieren op De Pauw zijn cadaver sprongen, alvorens er een definitief vonnis werd neergelegd door de bevoegde magistraat, is een andere zaak.
Is waarschijnlijk over de schreef gegaan maar volgens mij toch veel te hard aangepakt zonder enige kans op een restart.

I’m amazed how such a personal mental health struggle .. especially one involving an “attempted suicide” is made so non chalantly public by the media.

I’m sorry but what an absolute moron and egomaniac. He should’ve just apologized privately.
HE was the one who decided to drag and intimidate his victims into the courts and publish that insincere “apology” in the media.
And now we’re supposed to feel sorry for him? Give me a fucking break.

If he just accepted his mistakes , said sorry and moved on none of this would have gotten this far.
I always had some feeling he would get depressed bcs of all of this.
How is it all over the news already? Does the hospital call the press when a famous person comes in? Isn’t that a violation of their medical confidentiality? Or am I too naive?

Hindsight is always 20/20, but if he had handled this situation much better and immediately accepted his responisibities and faults, he could’ve worked through this much easier.
It’s his constant denying and attacking the victims that made more and more people and press turn against him. Not to mention, the time period this dragged on just tarnished his reputation more and more and probably pushed him into a deep depression as a result.
But again, hindsight makes this easy to say. Regardless of his faults, I still wish him the best in his recovery.
Respect voor Sihame El-Kaouakibi die onder het motto: “Niks is te laag voor mij” meteen een filmpje postte over hoe dit (en de reactie op haar fraude) aantoont dat ‘cancelcultuur in Vlaanderen te ver is doorgeslagen’. Je moet maar durven.
Look, you may think he is a ass for what he did and I would agree. But he doesn’t deserver the death penalty, I hope we can all agree on that.
I hope he finds a semblence of peace again. In spite of everything that happened.
Considering some of the comments on this post, we sure haven’t evolved a lot as a society. I’m sure we can all agree that BDP has done some reprehensible things. There has been a formal investigation, a trial and a sentence. This is how modern society works. We have to give people second chances or we might as well reintroduce banishment as a sentence into law.
